If you are thinking about taking your kid/s on a remote island getaway off grid…do it.! I had my moments of doubt and dont get me wrong we definitely missed our comforts BUT nothing beats the experience. Feel free to DM me any questions 😘

I did this on a relatively small budget to the remote island (not counting expensive Singapore 😳). Took buses, a ferry and 4x4s…even walked from town to town and people thought we were mad 🥵

1. Breathe. When you relax your breathing your whole body feels safe and relaxes which helps your body ride those waves.
2. DO NOT LOOK AT THE CLOCK!
3. Touch! Massage or just any positive touch will create natural endorphins and relax your mind and body.
4. Listen to music or Hypnobirthing. It sets the mood and gives you something to focus on.
5. Have a support partner/s who understand what you want from your birth experience and strive to support this 🫶🏼
6. Focus on your baby. Help them to navigate the surges by keeping upright, forward and open during them and then relax in any position you like in between. This will help them get deeper into the pelvis with the help of contractions.
7. Eat and drink! Food becomes less as time goes on but it’s important to keep your energy up with little snacks. Drinking water/energy drinks are crucial to keeping hydrated and energy levels up when you are sweating 🥵
8. Do not go into the hospital too early. I usually tell my clients it’s the right time if you are getting 3 contractions in 10 minutes lasting a minute and you are no longer able to talk to anyone when you have them. Labouring at home for as long as possible increases your oxytocin levels 🙌
9. Have a birth preference sheet that people can read so you don’t need to keep talking to different people about your plan.
10. Enjoy it! Hear me our. Everyone talks about the “pain” but I love when people say they enjoyed it. It’s not usually all of it 😂 But feeling positive and riding those waves instead of fighting them beings such JOY 🫶🏼

Sometimes induction is the right choice but some of us see those women in floods of tears and in a state of fear because they are not being heard…THEY ARE BEING TOLD. I should not be the one having discussions around choice and evidence, but I am. Of course this is not everyone but it’s happening more than it’s not in my clinic 🥺

Ask questions, you are not alone.

For advice you can speak to and for more information on your rights and choice if your local HCP is not hearing you.

Day or night when I get that call I am out of mine in a flash and zooming to where you are giving birth. Walking in looking fresh, walking out more dishevelled but always with a smile ☺️ Supporting you is what I do and I love it. My doula books are open for sporadic dates this year DM to chat ❤️
