I don’t think I could of survived without sling wearing. As I encourage my youngest child to walk more I found myself mourning the loss of our slings. As much as it’s back breaking work as they get bigger nothing quite compares to feeling them lay asleep in it or play with your hair. That simple and beautiful moment they lay their head on you is utter joy and love. Not all children like it but mine couldn’t live without it.

Today I spotted 3 parents not following safe sling guidance and this is no shame to them. There is not enough info out there and you know how I feel about guidance and informed decision making so your baby is safe and so are you!

Make sure if you are sling wearing to follow the TICKS rules for front wearing:

Tight.
In view at all times.
Close enough to kiss.
Keep chin off the chest.
Supported back.

I haven’t been posting much for a while. I’ve been soaking up all the moments and watching my brood grow too fast before my eyes. Coupled with incredibly interesting clients with high risk medical needs, doula clients that continue to shock me with their strength and power and trying to fight the nonsense dribble that I hear health care providers spewing out of their mouths (not all of course). As time has gone on with my work I am finding it harder and harder to break the day between my work life and my home life. The anger and outrage I feel for some clients sits with me and I feel sad. So I took a step back from this of things to get a better balance so I can still support you 🥰 Still posting my availability weekly on my stories and of course message me to book 💛 But I won’t be as present in the gram for the foreseeable for above reasons. Healthy balance and all! But I am here. Always 🫶🏼

My darling boy. You are 4!

If you know me you know I am a huge fan of having worn them since they first started out! The last piece of summer school prep is always shoes as my kids feet grow, what seems like, a whole size over summer. Especially important as this doula is on call and school admin is quite the list with 3 children! Today they arrived and after years of the boys wearing them I got all their sizes right first time 🙏
This week I’ve had two people ask about Leo’s barefoot shoes and delved into convo so felt a post for the gram was worth it 🤪

I find myself quiet and mute. The birth world is shattered. It is suffering. I am suffering.
I give myself to (mostly) women everyday in support of them and their voices, their wishes and their human rights. Only for those hopes and I would say simple asking’s to be stomped on and disrupted. My heart bleeds with the everyday stories I hear. Of course there are those stories which leave me feeling “yes yes yes” but the lows are low and leave a mark on the surface of all other stories.
My only wish? Birth is unpredictable. I wish for you to be respected, heard and your journey to meeting your baby shrouded in that partnership. That your team support you and fill you with safety so any choices you make come from a place of informed decision making, evidence and individualised care. This is the bare minimum.
But the bare minimum seems to be so sadly rarely met. How can the bar be so low?
This is entrenched in a tremendous amount of issues - from political to societal.
The only advice I can give is to have a supportive team, do at least SOME evidence based reading, watch real birth videos and prioritise looking after your body and mind so you can make your journey yours.
Do not be silenced.

Appreciation post for some fellow Malaysians who have opened up the most amazing restaurant Hitchin way. I’ve never had such good food! Can not wait to come back. Was lovely for my mum to speak Malay for her lunch experience 🥰 Just amazing and the kids loved it too and learnt how to respectfully shake hands with their elders 💓

I’ve been very open about my journey with my middle son. I’ve worked a lot with him and I now can see how he struggles to work his left brain with his right. He is left brain dominant! I am throwing myself into studies and books all about how to work on the two sides of the brain working together.

Usually when we sit down and do English comprehension (he hates this) we argue, it takes ages and usually he cries. Recently I found a method where we both just clicked together. He understood it, we didn’t argue and dare I say it was enjoyable.

It’s a big journey.
