These women have all steered clear of Botox and fillers in favour of retaining expressive and natural faces. No judgement against people who choose the other path, but it is wonderfully refreshing and liberating for someone who has also chosen the intervention free route to see these women celebrated and 'seen!'

Something I wish more people knew… a lot of what we call “signs of ageing” actually has very little to do with age.

It’s mostly the little things we do every day, on repeat.

Sun exposure — this is the big one. Even a bit of daily sun without protection quietly breaks down collagen over time.

Tech neck & posture — constantly looking down at your phone (or slouching at a desk) can deepen lines around the neck and jaw way faster than you’d expect.

Too much sugar — excess sugar can affect your skin’s elasticity, making it look less firm and more prone to fine lines.

Sleep position — sleeping on your side or front night after night can create “sleep lines” that eventually stick around.

Dehydration — when your skin is lacking water, everything looks more pronounced… fine lines, dullness, all of it.

None of this is about being perfect.
But it is empowering to realise how much is actually within your control.

Ageing is natural — but how it shows up? That’s influenced by your habits more than your birth date!

What happens when you stop Botox?

Firstly, you will regain your facial expressions, but secondly, there will be some muscle atrophy, meaning the muscles are weakened because they have been frozen and not used for a while.

This can lead to you feeling you look more lined, and dehydrated.

But don't worry, you can rebuild the muscle through face exercise, and even the muscles is lifted and toned, it plumps out and smooths the skin...so you may look like you've had another touch of Botox!!

Turkish Eggs, a skin loving breakfast you can enjoy without guilt. Packed with protein and probiotics, this will nourish you from the inside out.

I first discovered Turkish Eggs in a little cafe on the Northcote Road in Clapham, one lazy Saturday morning with friends. I have been making them ever since. They are a nutritious and less indulgent version of a 'weekend' breakfast.

You can whip these up really quickly, so easy but with a wow factor for weekend guests! I tend to use recipe for Turkish Eggs, though my personal preference is to use coriander instead of dill.

There, I said it 🙊

But its the truth, they don't want you to know. There is a whole industry built around eroding your self esteem to make you keep buying that cream, injecting your face, paying for that treatment.

Beauty journalists and beauty companies would rather you think face yoga is a little kooky, and 'niche', because if you actually woke up to its power...well...

Toning your muscles lifts and sculpts them - scientific fact
Massaging your face feeds the skin and boosts collagen production - scientific fact
Releasing deep tension in face and neck is deeply beneficial physically and mentally - scientific fact

Don't get me wrong, there a a few journos and skincare companies who are enlightened enough to highlight that face yoga is an excellent complement to good skincare.

But on the whole...the beauty industry would rather you just keep believing that skin is the only thing you need to focus on for a healthy face...and keep you buying over, and over...

Over the years I’ve developed a bit of a fascination with the beauty habits of women who age naturally. Not the perfectly polished images we see everywhere, but the women who seem to carry their years with ease and vitality.

Whenever I come across an interview with one of these women, I always find myself paying close attention to the little details of their routines. What do they actually do day to day? Are their habits complicated, or surprisingly simple?

So recently I went down a bit of a rabbit hole, researching the longevity and beauty rituals of some of the most admired naturally ageing icons. Women who have spent decades in the public eye and yet still look unmistakably like themselves.

I have created a list of key tips from some of the top naturally ageing beauty icons, both past and present.

Online Face Exercise & Face Massage Tutorials

We came to discover Facial Yoga a couple of years ago, when we started taking a real interest in our beauty routines. As sisters, both in our mid-thirties, we began to notice that the stress of work, children and general age-related factors were beginning to take their toll on our faces and we started swapping ideas about products and theories on how we could maintain that healthy, youthful glow as we age.

We’re not particularly brave, and our research focused predominantly on non-invasive interventions that wouldn’t cost the earth, and where the effects were long-lasting and the efforts were sustainable. We were fascinated by the concept of Facial Yoga from the start; it seemed a complete no-brainer that your facial muscles need a work out in order to stay toned and plump, and that boosting the circulation in your face would inevitably lead to a more glowing complexion. In addition, it is well known that we carry so much stress in our face and neck, so it makes complete sense to take the time to relax these muscles and release the tension that, in time, leads to wrinkles and a dull complexion.

Having trained under world leading Face Yoga expert, Danielle Collins, we began practicing the routines daily and have been evangelical to friends and family about both the results, and how easily it can be fitted into your daily life. We couldn’t believe more people didn’t know about the benefits of something so low cost and easy to do, and with no pain attached!

We are now continuing our journey to learn more about all the natural ways we can improve the health of our faces. We created Luminous because we want to share our findings and ideas with other like-minded people who want to look as healthy and happy as they can throughout their life, but without an enormous price tag or losing the character that makes our faces unique to each of us.
