When therapists say emotions are “trapped in the fascia,” they’re usually speaking in a mind-body or holistic sense rather than describing a proven physical storage of emotions inside tissue.
Fascia is the connective tissue network that surrounds muscles, organs, and nerves. Fascia is richly connected to the nervous system, so stress, trauma, and emotional states can influence how the body feels and moves.
What people often mean is:
Emotional stress can lead to:
muscle guarding
tension patterns
shallow breathing
posture changes
chronic tightness
Over time, the body can become “used to” these protective patterns.
For example:
anxiety → tight jaw/shoulders
grief → heaviness in chest posture
chronic stress → held tension in hips, neck, stomach
During massage people sometimes experience unexpected emotions:
crying
relief
shaking
deep relaxation
vivid memories
Therapists may interpret this as “stored emotion releasing.”
Scientifically, there’s good evidence that:
emotions affect the nervous system and muscle tension
touch therapies can regulate stress responses
the body and emotions are closely linked.
Hence the emotional release.
My treatments always bring so much more to the table.
With positive intent I approach every client with empathy, respect, and acceptance. I create a safe, supportive space where healing can unfold.
Energy flows best when attention is consciously directed towards a clear, purposeful goal or intention. This concept, often summarized as “where focus goes, energy flows,” ❤️🙏”
