Residents at Hesslewood House Care Home in Hessle enjoyed a wonderful trip out to Trinity Square in Hull to take part in the May Day celebrations and watch the traditional maypole dancing.

It was a lovely reminder of how important it is to support residents to continue doing the things they have always enjoyed. Days out like this bring familiarity, enjoyment, and a real sense of connection to the community around them.

Kathleen, Anita, Doreen and Joan attended the event alongside Bronwyn (Activity Coordinator) and Tammy (Receptionist), and it was clear to see from their smiles just how much they enjoyed being part of the celebrations.

Getting out and about can make such a difference — from sparking memories to simply enjoying fresh air, music, and familiar traditions. Moments like these are what meaningful activity is all about.

A lovely day was had by all.

Some people bring a little extra light wherever they go… and Sue has been one of those people in our care home for the past 10 years 💛

Week after week, she’s walked through our doors with her scissors and her smile, working her magic. From cutting and curling to drying and styling, Sue hasn’t just been doing hair — she’s been lifting spirits, turning frowns into smiles, and helping our lovely ladies feel their very best.

Now, Sue has decided it’s time to hang up her scissors and enjoy a well-deserved retirement. We’ve loved celebrating her with the team and reflecting on just how much she means to us all.

Sue, thank you for your kindness, your dedication, and the happiness you’ve brought to our residents over the years. You’ll be truly missed, but we hope your retirement is filled with relaxation, joy, and plenty of “me time” — you’ve earned it!

And to all those who show up in care homes every week, giving their time and care so generously… you make the world a brighter place. Thank you 💐

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of taking a group of residents from Hesslewood House to Burton Constable Hall & Parkland to explore their exhibition of military uniforms and memorabilia.

For many of our residents — especially those with personal or family ties to the Armed Forces — the visit was deeply meaningful. The collection sparked memories, conversations, and moments of quiet reflection, making it a truly special experience for everyone involved.

We were also able to capture photographs throughout the day, which we’ll be sharing back at the home with fellow veterans as part of our continued work with the Veteran Friendly Framework.

The day was made even more memorable by some unexpected sunshine, giving everyone the chance to enjoy the beautiful grounds, take things at their own pace, and simply enjoy being in the moment.

Experiences like this remind us that meaningful care goes beyond the home — it’s about staying connected to people’s stories, identities, and the world around them. A simple, thoughtfully planned outing can make a lasting difference.

We’d highly recommend discovering the wonderful attractions across East Yorkshire — there’s so much to enjoy!

Spring days at Hesslewood House 🌸💙

There’s something special about a walk in the spring sunshine — and at Hesslewood House Care Home in Hessle, it’s something our residents can enjoy as part of everyday life.

This week, our Garden Walking Club has been making the most of the warmer weather, with residents getting out for some fresh air, gentle exercise and good conversation along the way.

Person-centred care is at the heart of everything we do. It’s about understanding what people have always enjoyed and continuing to make those moments possible — whether that’s a hobby, a routine, or simply the pleasure of being outdoors.

With over 10 acres of beautiful landscaped gardens, there’s plenty of space to explore, unwind and take in the surroundings — and no shortage of steps being clocked up either!

Music, Memories & Smiles at Hesslewood House 🎶💙

There’s nothing quite like music to bring people together — and this week at Hesslewood House Care Home in Hessle, it did exactly that.

We were delighted to welcome Dominic - Care Home Entertainer, a talented and experienced care home entertainer, who treated our residents to a fantastic afternoon of music. From the 1950s and 60s favourites to Country, Soul, Motown and a touch of Swing and Rat Pack, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

The room was soon filled with singing, smiles and plenty of toe-tapping, as familiar songs sparked memories and got everyone talking.

Activities like this are about so much more than entertainment. They help keep our residents engaged, encourage conversation, lift mood and create meaningful moments that are shared and remembered.

A little challenge at Hesslewood House 💙

Lynn loves a good jigsaw and is often found happily working away on one. But this week, she fancied something a bit different… and a bit more of a challenge!

This wasn’t your usual jigsaw — no edge pieces, and every piece a different shape (some even looked like little animals and people). The aim? To create one beautiful peacock. Sounds simple… it wasn’t!

There were a few tricky moments along the way — in Lynn’s own words, “some pieces did get thrown on the floor when I couldn’t get them to fit!” — which definitely raised a few smiles.

But she stuck with it, and after four days of patience and determination, Lynn completed it… and she was so proud of herself (quite rightly too!).

It’s moments like this that matter. Doing something you enjoy, having a challenge, a laugh along the way and that lovely feeling of achievement at the end.

Well done, Lynn — we think it looks fantastic 👏💙

☀️🍦 Sunshine & Smiles at Hesslewood House 🍦☀️

The sunshine has been making a very welcome appearance at Hesslewood House — and our residents have been making the most of it!

What better way to celebrate the start of the warmer weather than with ice creams all round? 🍦 There were plenty of smiles, a few favourite flavours, and lots of laughter as everyone enjoyed a simple treat in the sunshine.

It’s these little moments — fresh air, good company, and something sweet to enjoy — that bring so much joy to daily life in our home.
