Hi, I'm Jake
I've created this page to track and monitor my fitness journey since becoming disabled due to a motorbike crash in Thailand, i'm unable to walk due to my accident, but i'm using exercise and fitness as my coping strategy. I grew up in Hull, and studied at Hymers College, i then started pot washing as a kitchen porter in a hotel and then got offered a job as a chef and worked at various restaurants, the best of them was The Pipe and Glass which is a Michelin star restaurant, i did this for a few years and then decided the long hours and weekends where taking over my life and i wanted a career change which led me and my friend starting a business in gardening, i was introduced to a special customer who asked me to prune a tree, i accepted even though i had no experience in this, i did it, and did it well, this led me onto the path of becoming a tree surgeon. I went to Thailand for two months with my friend to learn kickboxing, i fell in love with the sport, culture and country, that much so i went home, sold all my belongings and saved up enough money to last me a while out there. I moved to Phuket,Thailand and soon felt right at home, i made lots of new friends and did Muay Thai in the morning and evenings. I lived with my ex-girlfriend in a hotel and then moved into a house. I had various different types of motorbikes out there. I had a stadium fight planned for one evening and on the evening i was told it was cancelled as my opponent had dropped out, i was extremely disappointed about this as i had been training for two years for this fight, in a bad state, i got on my bike and crashed badly which put me into a coma for around 2/3 months, i ended up pretty much living in a hospital unit for around two years, the crash had caused me to have a traumatic brain injury, which unfortunately made me unable to walk. Without the support of my family i would not be where i am today, it goes without saying that when my life changed forever that night, theirs did too. I have some help from carers throughout the day but i'm in a far better place than i was, and i am only getting stronger and more determined each day to get back on my feet again. Cutting what's a long story short, i am now able to live independently as possible in my own home whilst seeing a specialist neuro physio twice a week, and around that i have a strict exercise plan what i stick to religiously and meal plan, these things help me have a structured routine and motivate me to keep going, i'm creating this page to show my progress and hopefully help anyone that can relate to the difficulties becoming disabled brings and the adaptations you have to make in your life.
