With GCSE's starting this week whether this is your first time, a resit, or something you’re coming back to later in life… take a breath.

This doesn’t measure who you are, your worth, your personality, or everything you’re capable of.
You’ve got this. 💫

All behaviour is communication.

The child bouncing off the walls and not listening.
The one who melts down over something small.
The one who suddenly goes quiet and says “I’m fine.”

Or even the adult who snaps, shuts down, or walks away.

It’s not always about attitude or defiance.

Often, it’s overwhelm.
Too many feelings.
Not enough skills (yet) to handle them.

It’s easy to jump straight to:
“Stop that”
“Calm down”
“What’s wrong with you?”

But a more helpful question can be:
“What’s going on underneath this?”

This doesn’t mean we ignore boundaries or accept hurtful behaviour.

It means we respond in a way that actually helps.

Because when someone feels understood and more settled, things start to shift.

Understanding builds safety. And safety is where change begins.

We all have 3 parts of ourselves:

The id, the ego, and the superego

The id is the part that says: “I want it now”, it’s driven by needs, urges, and emotion.

The superego is the part that says: “you shouldn’t”, shaped by rules, values, and expectations.

And the ego is the mediator, the part that tries to find a realistic, balanced way forward.

For example:

You want to stay up late watching something (id)

Another part says “you’ll be exhausted tomorrow, you shouldn’t” (superego)

So the ego steps in and says “ok, one more episode, then bed”

We need all three, they each serve a purpose.

But when one dominates, we tend to struggle.

Too much id can lead to impulsive, short-term decisions.

Too much superego can lead to self-criticism, pressure, and feeling not good enough

And when the system is pulled too far in either direction, the ego can become overwhelmed, which is often when we see overthinking, anxiety, and unhelpful defence patterns show up.

This is where awareness becomes important.

The aim isn’t to get rid of any part of you, it’s to strengthen your ability to notice them, understand them, and respond rather than react.

Listening to your needs… while still holding your boundaries.

Balance is where your wants and your values can both be heard. 🤍

This is something that I support people with in our work together. Please get in touch if you're needing some support.

You can’t control other people’s behaviour.

But you can control how you respond.

There is so much within your control,
your boundaries, your energy, your choices.

If it’s outside your circle, let it go.

FREE FACE-TO-FACE SESSION AVAILABLE

Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) is a gentle, structured approach that works with eye movements to help the brain process how emotional experiences are stored.

Sometimes, feelings linked to stress, anxiety, or past experiences can stay “active,” showing up as triggers, patterns, or reactions that feel hard to shift. IEMT helps reduce the intensity of those responses, so they feel calmer, less overwhelming, and easier to manage.

Many people find it doesn’t require going into lots of detail, which can make it feel a more contained and manageable way of working.

If this is something you want to explore, send me a message and we'll have a chat.

I’m a big believer that the work we do as therapists should always be evolving.

This weekend I’ve been completing amazing training in Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) an approach that works with how emotional experiences are stored and processed.

As someone who specialises in trauma, I’m always looking for ways to support clients, both adults and children, in processing difficult memories in a way that feels safe, contained, and effective.

This is something I’m really looking forward to integrating into my work in the near future.

More to share soon.

Anyone else ever feel like you’re about to be found out?

Like you’ve been holding it together… winging it… and at any moment someone’s going to say you don’t actually belong here.

Like there’s this invisible “hammer” hanging over you, just waiting to drop.

That feeling? It’s not failure. It’s awareness.

It’s what happens when you move from not knowing… to realising how much there is to know. And that part can feel uncomfortable, messy, even overwhelming.

That’s the stage where the “hammer” shows up,
the doubt, the second-guessing, the “maybe I’m not actually good at this” thoughts.

But you’re not going backwards.

You’re in the middle of the cycle.

We don’t grow in a straight line. We move through phases, confidence, doubt, effort, and eventually ease again.

And somewhere in that middle phase, imposter syndrome gets loud.

But loud doesn’t mean true.

You haven’t failed at anything you’ve put your mind to.
Every challenge, every setback has led you here.

Look how far you’ve come.

And if it’s hard to hold onto that right now, I’ve got you 💛

Today is World Autism Awareness Day 💙

This day is important to me, both in my work and in my own life.

I see how often autistic people are misunderstood and the impact that can have.

At a time where harmful narratives still exist, this matters.

A lot of people aren’t sure what counselling is like… and that can make it feel scary.

You might feel like you need to come in with the answers, or know exactly what you want to work on. But you don’t have to.

We start with a free 30 minute chat, just to get a sense of what you might need and how I can support you. In the first session we go through everything together and agree a way of working that feels right for you.

After that, there isn’t a “right way” to do counselling. Some people talk, some sit in silence, some don’t know where to start, and that’s ok.

I often think of it like a ball of wool, you come in with it however it is and together we begin to gently unpick it, you might take it away, sit with it
and work on it in your own time. We then look at it together in the sessions if you want to. You might think you’re making one thing but it becomes something else. Something that feels more like you.

I tailor the counselling to each person. It might be that we sit in the chairs or that we use more creative ways of working using art, play, music, clinical hypnotherapy or something that helps you feel more grounded and comfortable in the space. I work with adults and children.

It might be that we sit in silence or that something as simple as a cup of tea helps you settle in.

We work together to find what feels right for you.

Counselling isn’t the same as talking to friends, what you share is kept safe and confidential
with a few exceptions if I’m concerned about your safety or someone else’s. You won’t overwhelm me, you won’t burden me, you won’t be too much
I won’t tell you what to do or give you advice.

This is your safe space to process what’s going on for you.

You are the expert in you 🤍
