Today we celebrated our rich diversity among our team here at Allandale. We had a staff multicultural awareness day where you could come along and share your cultures and religions with the rest of the team. It was a lovely afternoon had by all.

Congratulations to one of our care staff Shell, who became a nanny for the first time today.

"Daily Sparkle" activities are a collection of resources designed for older adults and people living with dementia to provide stimulation, enjoyment, and meaningful engagement. The materials use reminiscence and large, easy-to-read text to evoke happy memories and facilitate conversation. They are widely used in care homes, day centers, and hospitals.
Key resources
The Daily Sparkle subscription includes a variety of materials for different needs and settings:
Daily and weekly newspapers: These are the core resource, featuring large-font reminiscence articles that are easy to digest and trigger positive memories and conversation.
Monthly magazine: A high-gloss, printed magazine with quizzes, articles, and beautiful images.
Activity bank: A digital library with thousands of ready-to-use session plans, including:
Quizzes, puzzles, and games
Arts and crafts
Movement and sensory activities
Music and video resources
Audio and large-font versions: Designed for enhanced accessibility.
Foreign language versions: The resources can be translated into various languages to be more inclusive.
How they are used
The activities are flexible and can be adapted to suit different individuals and care settings.
Group sessions: The newspapers and activities are used to start conversations and help residents find common interests and build new friendships.
One-on-one sessions: Care staff, family, and friends can use the materials to connect with a resident, especially those confined to their rooms or beds. The materials provide a way to initiate conversation and ease loneliness.

Some really helpful information regarding mealtimes for the older generation and those with Dementia.

Mealtimes are a big part of everyone’s day and
food is a subject we all love to talk about! Eating
and drinking well is an important part of keeping
us all healthy and happy. The way we offer food,
how and where it is served and the choices that
are given make a real difference. Sometimes the
smallest things have the biggest impact.
In this bulletin we’ve captured lots of ideas from
care homes around the UK to share with you.

A trip to the singing cafe and autumn conker art. Our dining experience this month was Chinese. Bingo and prizes, our thank you tree and craft fun making hedgehogs.

Eyes down for the next Bingo sessions, families and friends welcome.

Review: The care home was recommended to us by carers who were looking after my mother at home. Following a period of hospitalisation we managed to secure a place at The Croft and from day one all the staff and managers associated with the care home have been fantastic. They are caring, compassionate, friendly and welcoming and we have built up a fantastic and humorous rapport with those caring for mum. They somehow manage to keep mum smiling despite her frailty.

We can't thank the staff enough for the care that they deliver.

There are always sufficient staff on hand both day and night to meet mums care needs and those of the other residents.

We are always made welcome whenever we visit and the home put on a special birthday celebration for a small group of family and friends the other week. Thanks again to the chef and all the special staff xx
