Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected after the horrific attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue this morning on Yom Kippur, one of the most sacred days in the Jewish calendar.

What should have been a time of prayer, community spirit, reflection, and quality time spent with loved ones sadly turned into absolute horror and tragedy. Lives have been lost, and others remain injured.

We stand together in full solidarity with the Jewish Community in the Greater Manchester area and beyond.

Last September after studying hard for 2 years, I obtained my Level 4 Higher Education Qualification with the National Association of Funeral Directors. It was a difficult 2 years trying to balance family life, work life, social life and studying on top, but it was well worth it in the end. On Saturday, I was presented with my official certificate, we had a brilliant time and it's a privilege to be a member of the NAFD who rightly set high standards for our profession and advocate for the best working practice possible.
Thought I would just share a couple of photos of the brilliant day i had alongside my biggest supporters, my wife Alison Mitchell and mum Janice Mitchell. Lastly, a massive thank you once again to my outstanding tutor Emily Houghton , I couldnt have done this without you.

Such a shame this production didn't happen when it should have due to Covid in 2020, but with unfinished business, HAODS will be back in March 2026 with 9 to 5: The Musical. Im sure it will be amazing and im so very happy and proud to give back what i can to our little community of Heywood and be the official main sponsor for a hard working, determined, and talented bunch of people. Sometimes, theatre breaks your heart. 💔
In 2020, on the night before opening, we stood in the wings — set built, costumes hung, lines learned, dreams ready — when Covid stopped everything.
Our production of 9 to 5: The Musical never saw the stage.

The cast and crew were devastated. Months of work, gone in an instant. The curtain never rose. The seats stayed empty. And the show became a memory of what could have been.

More recently, we faced another tough moment — having to cancel our 2026 production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory before rehearsals began. A different kind of heartbreak, but one that reminded us just how much this art form means to all of us.

But from disappointment comes determination.
We knew we had to do something.
Something big.
Something right.
Something that honours our members, our audiences, and the incredible history of our society.

And so we asked ourselves:
What better time than now… for the show that never was… to finally BE?

Flowers for a lovely family I had the privilege of looking after yesterday. A beautiful casket spray, an owl designed, created and drawn by the great grandchildren incorporating sunflowers as requested, and a flock of sheep for an 'in house' joke between the grandchildren and their dearly missed grandma.
