🔷 AXA Recognition – What a Week for VISIO Health! 🎉

We’re thrilled to announce that VISIO Health is now officially recognised by AXA Health—making it two major insurers in just one week!

Why this matters:
🏥 AXA Health is the second-largest UK medical insurer, with approximately 30% market share. That means we’re now accessible to the majority of private health plans in the country.

This is especially exciting given that Ms Ranjit Sandhu, co-founder& consultant ophthalmology, can offer the full VISIO experience to AXA-insured patients too.

We couldn’t be prouder - offering world-class care and premium optics to insured patients just got even easier. Two big wins in one week = a LOT of smiles at VISIO! 😊

Come see why we’re becoming the go-to choice for expertly insured eye care.

🔷 We’re now BUPA recognised! 🎉

We’re absolutely thrilled to share that VISIO Health is now officially recognised by BUPA—one of the UK’s leading private health insurers.

This is a huge moment for us, and especially for Ms Ranjit Sandhu, our co-founder and Consultant Ophthalmologist, who is a BUPA Platinum Consultant.

Over 50% of her private patients already come through BUPA referrals - and now, she can finally offer them the full VISIO experience:
✨ Premium diagnostics
✨ Consultant-led care
✨ Warm, family-run service

BUPA hold around 40-50% of the UK private medical insurance market, so this is huge news!

Happy days for VISIO… and for the patients we can now care for with BUPA support.

☀️ July is UV Safety Month – Protect Your Eyes This Summer

UV rays aren’t just bad for your skin - they can also harm your eyes.

Long-term exposure can lead to cataracts, macular degeneration, and growths on the eye’s surface.

👓 Here’s how to enjoy July safely:
• Wear wraparound sunglasses that block UVA & UVB
• Add wide-brimmed hats for extra shade
• Use daily preservative-free lubricating drops to ease dryness from sun, wind or air-con
• Stay hydrated – your eyes need moisture, too

Book an eye exam to check for early signs of UV-related damage—because prevention is the best protection.

🔦 Spotlight on YAG Laser Capsulotomy

Did you know cataract surgery sometimes leaves a slight haze on the back of your lens capsule months later? This is known as a secondary cataract, but there’s a quick fix.

Our consultants use a YAG laser to create a tiny opening in the capsule, restoring your clear vision - typically in 5–10 minutes. The procedure is painless, outpatient-only, and you’ll often notice immediate vision improvement.

Post-op care includes:
📍 A short rest and pressure checks
📍 Fluorescein or antibiotic drops for ~1 week
📍 Most patients return to normal activities the next day

Ask your consultant if YAG might be the right step after cataract surgery.

Keep your eyes peeled for our future post where we showcase our amazing YAG laser, from Daybreak Medical!

👁️ What to Expect: Intravitreal Injections Explained

If your consultant recommends intravitreal injections, here’s what that means and why it matters:
➡️“Intravitreal” = injection inside the eye, into the vitreous gel at the back
➡️Used to treat conditions like wet AMD, diabetic retinopathy, macular oedema and eye infections

Benefits:
✅ Delivers medication directly to the retina
✅ Avoids side effects from oral medications
✅ Provides powerful anti VEGF drugs or steroids to protect vision

What it’s like:
1️⃣Quick procedure (under 5 mins) with numbing drops
2️⃣Mild pressure sensation – discomfort is rare
3️⃣You’ll go home the same day, with aftercare instructions and follow-up

We’re here to guide you through the process - every step of the way

🖥️ Meet the Heidelberg Spectralis OCT – our eye imaging powerhouse 👁️

When you visit VISIO Health for a diagnostic scan, you’ll likely meet our Spectralis Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine. It’s one of the most advanced in the world - and it’s quietly doing incredible work every day behind the scenes.

So what is an OCT scan?

It’s a non-invasive, high-resolution scan that takes cross-sectional images of the retina - the light-sensitive tissue at the back of your eye. Think of it like an ultrasound, but using light instead of sound.

What does it help us detect?
✔️ Macular degeneration (wet & dry)
✔️ Diabetic retinopathy
✔️ Macular oedema
✔️ Retinal vein occlusion
✔️ Glaucoma
✔️ And many more…

Our Heidelberg Spectralis can also do:
🔹 OCT-A (angiography) – to assess blood flow without using dye
🔹 Autofluorescence & dye-based angiography – for deeper insight in complex cases

It gives our consultants the most detailed view possible - helping us make better decisions for your vision.

Scans are quick, comfortable and completely contact-free.
