If you have already let go of your New Year's resolutions, please take a deep breath and read this:
You have not failed.
There is a reason why trying to reinvent yourself in January feels like pushing a boulder uphill. We are currently in the depths of winter. The days are short, the light is low, and biologically, your body is producing more melatonin. You are physically programmed to hibernate, to rest, and to conserve energy. Yet, modern society demands that we operate at peak productivity the moment the clock strikes midnight on New Year's Eve.
It creates a "social jetlag"—a conflict between what your body needs (rest) and what the calendar demands (hustle).
Did you know that until 1752, the legal New Year in England didn't start until March 25th? Our ancestors understood what we have forgotten: that the year truly begins when the land wakes up, not when it is frozen.
So, if you are struggling to find motivation right now, give yourself permission to stop forcing it. Use these dark evenings to "winter" properly. Get cosy, read books, drink hot tea, and plan quietly. Let your ideas germinate in the dark so they are ready to break through when the sun returns in Spring.
If you are finding this season difficult, or if the pressure to perform is causing anxiety, we are here to support you.
We are delighted to introduce Explore Heal Grow, Justine’s new dedicated space for personal growth and healing. Whether you need online therapy, counselling, or EMDR to help process the past, we are here to help you prepare for your own personal spring.
