Well done to the cadets and staff from 8๏ธโƒฃ7๏ธโƒฃ8๏ธโƒฃ who assisted at a local Girl Guides VE Day anniversary event last weekend ๐Ÿ‘ they helped with the street party, showcased the flight simulator, and performed a brilliant drill display, designed by the cadets themselves! They even contributed to the human โ€˜80โ€™ on the school field to mark the occasion.

Thank you so much to the local Girl Guides for letting us share the commemorations ๐Ÿ™Œ

Our community might have noticed that our Squadron ensign is currently flying at half-mast while we are present in the building (see picture in the comments).

This is to commemorate the sad passing of one of our Wing Staff, Sqn Ldr Mark Bodger. He has provided hugely valuable support to all Squadrons across Dorset & Wiltshire Wing, not just ours.

Our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and all his Royal Air Force Air Cadets volunteer colleagues at this truly sad time. Blue Skies, Sir ๐Ÿซก๐Ÿ’™

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sqn Ldr Mark Bodger, Chief of Staff - Support, Deputy Officer Commanding Dorset and Wiltshire Wing.

Sqn Ldr Bodger has been a significant figure in the Wing, starting his Air Cadet career as a cadet at Poole Squadron. On leaving as a cadet, he returned and took a Volunteer Reserve Training (VRT) commission as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer.

He held various roles within the Wing, most recently serving as Shooting Officer, before assuming the role of Deputy Officer Commanding, Dorset and Wiltshire Wing.

Sqn Ldr Bodger has not only left his legacy within the Wing but also across the wider Corps from his time as a Small Arms Training Team Instructor, Wing Aviation Officer and Camp Commandant on multiple occasions.

In addition to his volunteering with the Air Cadets, he played a very active role in his local amateur dramaticsโ€™ societies, taking on the Chair of Ringwood Musical & Dramatic Society, and was a highly valued member of the Poulner Players and Verwood Pantomime Society.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this time.

On behalf of Dorset and Wiltshire Wing - Clear skies and fair weather, Sir. You will be greatly missed but not forgotten.

โ€œWhen once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.โ€

Please help out one of our neighbouring Squadrons if you can! Their building has been absolutely devastated by the floods during Storm Bert. Anything you can give will help get the building restored and running again, and get the cadets learning amazing life skills

๐Ÿ† WING ACTIVITIES DAY ๐Ÿ†

We recently took part in the annual โ€˜WADโ€™ competition against all other Squadrons in Dorset & Wilts Wing. After a long day of various competitions, we came 2nd overall! ๐Ÿคฉ there were also some fantastic individual and team achievements, includingโ€ฆ

๐Ÿฅ‡ Cpl Pritii Mane, winner of the over 16s presentation
๐Ÿฅ‰ Cdt Sophie Carder, joint 3rd in the under 16s presentation
๐Ÿฅ‰ the Banner and Squad Drill team, who placed 3rd
๐Ÿฅˆ the Aircraft Recognition team, who placed 2nd
๐Ÿฅ‡ the Photography team, who came 1st across all categories
๐Ÿฅ‡ our OC, Flt Lt Nick Goddard, who won the โ€˜Openโ€™ category in Photography

Well done to every single person who put in a massive shift on the day, especially considering we had to juggle other commitments as a Squadron which limited our prep time. Great team effort! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

2024 was the first fully competitive โ€˜WADโ€™ for 5 years, and this fantastic result builds on our 2nd places in 2017, 2018 and 2019. 878 are back with a bangโ€ฆ.and weโ€™re gunning for 1st place next year!

๐ŸŒ… Sunset Ceremony ๐ŸŒ…

878 Sqn recently commemorated the Battle of Britain by parading at MOD Shrivenham. We were kindly invited to this highly prestigious event by the WO & Sgtsโ€™ Mess at the Defence Academy of the UK.

Three of our cadet NCOs were given the honour of lowering the ensign, which was then followed by an inspection of the cadets from the newly appointed Commandant of the Joint Services Command and Staff College, Air Cdre Sharrocks. And Sir Winston Churchill also made an appearance!

The cadets received high praise from the Air Cdre and the Mess members for their high standards of uniform and drill. Thank you to the Mess for their kind invite, it was a true honour on what is a solemn commemoration for those in โ€˜light blueโ€™.
