Did you know that ADHD and Autistic folks are more prone to hypermobile joints?
Did you know that having hypermobility can make it hard for people to
write,
use silverware,
stand still
use zippers or buttons,
walk,
hold in urine,
balance,
digest food,
and avoid sprains?

My personal theory is that many Neurodivergent people of average (or even ABOVE average) intelligence,
are labeled "klutzy" or "ditzy,"
purely because of how hypermobility impacts their body
Hypermobility makes it difficult for them to PHYSICALLY keep up with peers, so they are singled out--
And yet it isn't TREATED like a real disability.
It's treated like a joke.
Except it ISN'T a joke. It can be disabling.

Hypermobility OFTEN causes
fatigue, joint clicking, acid reflux, "growing pains," injuries, and partial or full dislocations.
But it can't be fixed with willpower and education.
Hypermobility requires ACCOMODATIONS, and support from
Physical Therapists,
Occupational Therapists,
and Doctors.
And for people who were Hypermobile in their youth,
it's important to know that Hypermobile folks usually become LESS mobile over time,
due to their susceptibility to injuries and the resulting arthritis.
