this chinese proverb is simplistic when looking at it on the surface however, when really thinking about it, why is it so difficult to act upon?
On a daily basis a lot of us experience âtensionâ whether we realise it or not; this can be emotional tension, muscular tension or simply just tension from how we hold ourselves. We all walk around holding tension in our body and minds and sometimes that tension can become so habitual that your mind/body hold it like that permanently.
In another perspective, it can be seen as feeling a need to fit into society so much that when you shift yourself to meet the expectations, youâre holding yourself back from being YOU; It can be something as simple as doing the same thing as your friends to âfit inâ, as âputting on a faceâ for others or as âfitting standardsâ of society. We often find ourselves trying to live up to the expectations of others however we donât exactly allow enough time to define what WE value, what WE want.
Itâs only when we give ourselves, our minds and our bodies a moment to sit down and take a breath when we truly let ourselves relax, itâs that state of stillness that you TRULY are.
Itâs vital to allow ourselves time at any point in the day to take a break from day-to-day stress; even if itâs a simple 5 minute stretch, doing something you like or even taking a moment to just breathe, just giving yourself some time out of your day to let yourself have a moment of stillness will do more for you than you think.
Itâs natural to want to fit in, itâs natural to hold the tension of day-to-day life, I myself am guilty of it! However as long as you are being true to YOURSELF, looking after not only YOUR body but your MIND too and listening to YOUR mind, body and soul, that should be all that matters.
Just like a plant needs water and sun to grow, your soul needs your body and mind to be looked after with relaxation and care in order to thrive.
And so when you have a minute, just remember; take a deep breath in, hold it for a few seconds, and breathe out. Let all the tension youâre holding release as your shoulders drop gently with every breath out as your chest falls.
Let it all go.
Let yourself be.
