Excellence in Aromatherapy

The International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists is one of the largest professional aromatherapy practitioner organisations in the world and is a strong, respected voice in the field of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM). Its inception in 2002, an amalgamation of the International Society of Professional Aromatherapists and the Register of Qualified Aromatherapist, was the result of a vision by the UK's major international professional aromatherapy organisations to become the best they could. The IFPA is a registered charity with clear, defined aims and objectives and is supported through its membership in the UK and worldwide. The IFPA believes wholeheartedly in the principles and philosophies of holistic health, health care and the promotion of well-being for the individual. These principles and beliefs are the foundations of the IFPA's aims and objectives for its members together with its strong codes of ethics and practice. About Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the controlled use of essential oils by different methods to enhance the well-being of the mind, body and spirit. It uses pure essences from plants, which may have a preventative effect, helping to care for common ailments while working alongside medical treatment in the healing process. Essential oils are highly fragrant, volatile and are extracted from flowers, leaves, twigs, bark, roots and fruits of many common plants. The essential oils have many different properties and as research has shown, can be stimulating, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory, relaxing, calming, soothing and uplifting. Aromatherapy, therefore, has the ability to affect the emotions, promote bodily well-being and balance psychologically. Aromatherapy is beneficial to most people in most circumstances. Essential oils must be diluted and used with care, preferably under the guidance of a qualified IFPA aromatherapist. When used correctly and by a qualified IFPA aromatherapist, aromatherapy can be effective for a wide client group. Your local aromatherapist will help to advise you on which method and treatment would be best for you.

As we come to the end of what has felt like the longest month, the nervous system can begin to speak a little louder - through tension, fatigue, emotional heaviness or a simple sense of “running on empty.”

This gentle inhalation blend offers a moment of grounding as you transition out of January and into a softer rhythm.

Frankincense supports breath regulation and presence.
Rose offers emotional softening and steadiness.
Together, they invite the body out of tension and back into calm.

Save this for the days when you feel stretched thin - or simply need a moment to return to yourself.

Burnout expresses itself physically just as much as emotionally. When the nervous system cannot return to baseline, the body begins compensating in ways that drain energy, mood, and motivation.

Aromatherapy is not a cure for burnout - but it can support regulation through olfaction’s direct connection to the limbic system and autonomic nervous system.

Bergamot works synergistically to slow the breath, soften tension and reintroduce a sense of emotional spaciousness. If you’re navigating burnout, start with one small ritual. Consistency, not volume is what resets the nervous system.

Aromatherapy directly influences the limbic system - the emotional centre of the brain. When we inhale essential oils, molecules travel via the olfactory bulb and immediately shift our stress response, breath rhythm, heart rate, and emotional state.

Lavender and Neroli are two of the most researched oils for emotional regulation and calming the nervous system.
