Small daily habits can make a big difference to heel health. Walking barefoot at home, wearing open-backed slippers and forgetting to moisturise regularly all increase dryness and pressure on your heels.
These habits reduce skin flexibility and make cracks more likely. Supportive footwear at home and consistent moisturising can significantly improve skin condition.
If cracked heels keep returning, professional care may be needed.

Why we recommend urea-based creams
Not all foot creams work in the same way. Urea-based creams are specifically designed for foot skin, which is thicker and under far more pressure than skin elsewhere on the body.
Urea helps attract moisture into the skin while gently softening hard, dry areas. With regular use, this improves flexibility and reduces the risk of painful cracks forming or reopening.
If you’re unsure which cream is right for you, our team is happy to advise.

Why heels crack in winter
Winter is one of the harshest seasons for your feet. Cold weather reduces moisture in the skin, and central heating dries it out even further. The skin on your heels is naturally thick and under constant pressure, so when it loses flexibility, cracks can form quickly.
What begins as dry skin can soon become painful if ignored. The good news is that cracked heels are preventable with the right care and early intervention.
If your heels are already sore or splitting, don’t wait.

Our January blog is now live ✨ and it focuses on something we feel strongly about: diabetic foot health works best when care is joined up. 👣💙
For people living with diabetes, foot problems can develop quickly and healing can take longer, which is why prevention, early assessment, and ongoing support matter so much. In the blog, we also introduce Jay, our new podiatrist with a strong background in diabetic foot care, and Alison, our health coach who supports wellbeing factors such as stress, sleep, and long-term health habits.

If you’re living with diabetes (or caring for someone who is), this is a helpful read for understanding how small steps and regular support can protect foot health over the long term. 📖✨
