Gratitude 🙏

This week's homework for the workshop, was to start looking at things they are grateful for.
The children completed this and were willing to share their thoughts with each other.

You dont have to be grateful for big things in life. You can acknowledge the very simple things. The little things we often take for granted .

Two of the comments

" grateful for a loving family"

" grateful for a hot shower"

I for one this week am grateful for having running water downstairs after 2 months without.

Practising gratitude can help our brain think more positively. It can change our focus and improve our brain health .

Why not try it. This tool can be used to reflect upon when we are feeling low in mood.

We all worry about the little things in life as well as the big things. Sometimes we play our thoughts over and over in our head 🤯. I call it mental chatter . Learning strategies to manage these thoughts can help stop continous worrying and chatter.

Tonight's mindfulness technique was 🌿 leaves on a stream. Learning how to let your thoughts and feelings float away.

We all need a purpose. Something to get up for in a morning, something to look forward too, something that makes us feel good.

Lacking a sense of purpose whatever your age can lead to boredom, anxiety, depression, withdrawal and low mood.

Below is a case study of a young person who accessed the service. Occupational therapy improved many aspects of this person's life , from finding a purpose ✨️

🛑Red attracts the eye. As we get older the colours and contrasts we see alter. In dementia eye sight can be affected and perception can change.
Evidence suggests that red can be seen, and may attract the person to eat or drink more if red plates and cups are used 🛑.

👪 and friends can disappear when a loved one is diagnosed. Having conversation starters for the person living with dementia and for their visitor can help reduce awkwardness 👪

🏖 Holidays are a great conversation starter.
