Did you know there are many different types of dementia?

Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies are four of the most common forms of dementia, and they can all affect people differently.

Dementia looks different for everyone, so a person’s symptoms may not look exactly as they are described here.

Children under 6 are now being offered the MMRV vaccine instead of MMR, as part of the NHS routine childhood vaccination programme.
This replaces the existing MMR vaccine and adds protection against chickenpox, alongside measles, mumps and rubella.
You don’t need to do anything — your GP will contact you when your child’s vaccination is due.

Today NHS England has announced that it will be increasing the sensitivity of bowel cancer screening to help save more lives.

They estimate that this change will detect an extra 600 bowel cancers early, when treatment is more likely to be successful, each year in England.

We hope to see more developments on early diagnosis such as this in the upcoming National Cancer Plan for England, which is expected to be launched next month.

If you're aged 50 to 74 and registered with a GP, you'll automatically get a bowel cancer screening kit (FIT kit) through the post every two years. But it’s important to remember that cancer screening is for people without symptoms. If you notice any changes that are not normal for you, or you spot something unusual in the loo, don’t ignore it - speak to your doctor.

If someone tells you they have thoughts of su***de, listen to them and allow them to express how they are feeling. They may feel a huge sense of relief that someone is willing to hear their darkest thoughts.

Empathic listening is key here, ask open and honest questions without judgement and show that you are listening by reflecting on what they say and clarifying what they mean.
