At Beritaz Care, we are passionate about raising awareness of dementia and are always looking for ways we can do our part to provide information and support to those impacted by the disease.

Conversation around the topic of dementia and Alzheimer’s is so important to help educate families in how to best support their loved ones struggling with the condition. Within our homes, we see firsthand the impact dementia has on our residents and their families, and we want to do everything we can to make life easier for them. From adapting our facilities, care, and activities to better accommodate residents with dementia, to hosting expert-led training and Q&A sessions for relatives, we are always looking for ways we can enhance our own care services to better support those impacted by dementia.

Working within the care industry means this is a topic very close to the hearts of everyone at Beritaz Care, and we are keen to do our part to show our support both inside and outside of our homes. We are long-term supporters of the Alzheimer's Society , who offer education and tools to help families learn how to support someone with dementia to live their life to the fullest, as well as funding their own dementia research projects. Recently, staff members from Ashton Manor Care Home completed a 13-mile trek around London in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. Thanks to the support of our community and the tireless efforts of the team in fundraising, they were able to smash their target and raise over £2,300 for the Alzheimer’s Society.

This week is Dementia Action Week, an annual campaign aimed at raising awareness and understanding of Alzheimer’s and dementia. This year, the Alzheimer’s Society are encouraging everyone to join their Forget Me Not Appeal and honour the stories of those they wear their Forget Me Not badge for. “Behind each Forget Me Not badge, there are stories of lives devastated by dementia and when we all wear the badge together, it becomes a movement of hope, action and unity.”

Within our homes, we regularly see the challenges faced by those affected by dementia, and we are passionate about finding the best ways to support our residents who are impacted by dementia or Alzheimer’s. Join us in showing support for Dementia Action Week 2026 and encouraging conversations around this condition.

Our residents were making the most of the lovely sunny weather last weekend by spending some time in our garden. ☀️🕶️

We have been lucky to have some wonderfully sunny days recently, so we have been taking full advantage of the chance to enjoy the lovely garden at Springkell House Care Home. Our residents were very happy to have some time in the sunshine, enjoying the fresh air and blue skies while they had a nice chat.

We can’t wait to spend even more time outdoors this summer, sitting in the garden and enjoying walks around the local area. Everyone is already looking forward to even more sunny days at Springkell House.

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, a campaign aimed at improving knowledge around mental health and encouraging everyone to take some time to consider their own mental health. Supporting mental health is a big part of later-life care, and we at Beritaz Care understand the part mental health plays in the overall physical wellbeing of our residents.

Discover how we are working to support the mental health and wellbeing of our residents, staff, and every single member of the wider communities at our homes in our latest blog, and why this plays such an important part in the care we provide within our homes. The theme of this year’s campaign by the Mental Health Foundationis “Take Action”, encouraging everyone to take action to support good mental health. Even small actions can help us feel hopeful and less powerless. And while our individual actions matter, when we come together, we are even more powerful.

This week is the perfect opportunity to educate yourself on mental health issues, check in with your loved ones, and take some time to consider how you are addressing your own mental health.

We had some very special visitors to Springkell House this week! 🐾

Our residents are always happy to be paid a visit by their four-legged friends, and these adorable dogs made the most well-behaved and polite guests. For our residents, this was certainly one of the highlights of their day, and they had so much fun getting to say hello and stroke the dogs, who were very happy for all the attention. 🐶

Did you know that research has shown that the presence of animals in care homes can significantly impact the health and wellbeing of care home residents?

Whether it’s visits from family pets or animal therapy sessions with some of the wonderful local organisations who visit the home, any time spent with their fluffy friends certainly makes our residents smile. 😊

This week, our residents have been busy baking some delicious sweet treats to enjoy with a cup of tea. ☕️🍪

Our lovely care assistant, Surya, helped the residents prepare the biscuit dough and pipe it onto trays to create these pretty little biscuits, before popping them in the oven to bake. The residents really enjoyed doing some baking, an activity which many of them have found joy in as a pastime throughout their lives.

Being able to help our residents to continue enjoying their favourite hobbies is something we always strive to do at Springkell House, and our team members are happy to lend a helping hand whenever needed.

The biscuits came out looking great and everyone enjoyed the process of making them, nearly as much as they enjoyed eating them.

Our residents have been enjoying a variety of activities recently, including some dedicated one-to-one activities with our team members.

In these one-to-one sessions, our team members will spend time doing an activity of our residents’ choice. This might be having a pamper session, doing some exercise, listening to their favourite music, playing a board game, or enjoying a favourite hobby that they can do with a little bit of support. Sometimes they will just spend this time having a good chat, sharing stories from their lives, or talking about things that are on their mind. These one-to-one sessions are greatly enjoyed and appreciated by our residents and also give them the opportunity to bond with the staff members.

Last month, the Springkell House team took part in a first aid training session with our wonderful trainer, Frances from Two Line Training . 🤕

Knowing how to respond in the event of an emergency is a key skill our team needs to have, so we hold regular sessions on emergency first aid training to help our team refresh their skills and ensure they are updated on best practices.

This training session with Frances enabled our team to get practical experience on these life-saving skills and understand exactly how to best help our residents in an emergency situation. As always, Frances delivered an engaging and informative session that left our team members feeling confident and capable in their first aid delivery skills.
