Our Story
Cambridge Acorn Project aims to provide services and support to individuals and groups suffering from trauma and/or emotional distress. In particular we aim to support children and their parents or carers to cope with traumatic, stressful or emotionally difficult situations in order to improve well-being and future prospects. Our work uses an empathy based approach in which understanding, trust and mutual respect are crucial in working together with those in need. We take a holistic view to encompass issues of social justice, such as poverty and deprivation. We offer 1:1 work, joint/family work, โstructuralโ (environmental) work and advocacy and we are currently piloting a number of projects, including a project which uses the video game Tetris to help reduce emotional distress. In 2019, we are hoping to pilot an innovative approach to community work entitled โEmpathetic Communitiesโ and we are waiting on the outcome of a Stage 2 funding application with the Big Lottery Fund for this piece of work.
