After a year off for garden landscaping, we brought the BBQ back – this time with a festival twist!

Guests enjoyed live music from Gemma Ashley, performing Woodstock-inspired classics, voted for Best Dressed, and the children were kept entertained by a visit from Ghost Spider. Our raffle winners took home some fabulous luxury hampers!

It was especially lovely to welcome so many relatives – past and present – who joined us for the day.

We also celebrated our Employee of the Year awards – huge congratulations to our joint winners, Janet and Shannon, and to Georgina, who received the Manager’s Choice Award!

Until next year... ☀️

☀️Last week, our residents made the most of the beautiful sunshine with a variety of uplifting outdoor activities.
🌸From garden tours among the spring blooms to a spot of sunbathing and friendly garden games.
🧘‍♀️Residents also took part in a gentle exercise session, helping to keep bodies active.
🎨Indoors, a mindful colouring session turned into a discovery of hidden talents, as some residents chose to sketch freehand and revealed their impressive artistic flair!

🎖️ Vera's VE Day Moment 🎖️

We’re so proud of our amazing resident Vera, who attended the VE Day Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey – and was seated right behind the King!

In this moving video, Vera shares how she ended up so close to the action, her chat with Prince William, and the heart-breaking story of her family home being bombed twice during the war.

Everyone at Foxholes cheered when we saw her on TV – a truly unforgettable moment.

🎥 Watch her incredible story below and help us celebrate this remarkable generation.

🇬🇧 VE Day 80th Anniversary 🇬🇧

Today, we paused to reflect and remember the 80th anniversary of VE Day — a moment that changed the course of history and shaped the lives of so many.

Here at Foxholes, we feel deeply privileged to care for and learn from a generation who lived through extraordinary times. Their strength, sacrifice, and stories continue to inspire us every day.

To mark the occasion, we have a VE Day Commemorative Exhibition running in our library until Sunday. The exhibition features personal stories from residents as well as wartime artefacts generously loaned by residents and the RAF Upper Heyford Heritage Centre.

Lest we forget. ❤️

💛 This week has been filled with celebration, growth, and remembrance.

🎉 We enjoyed a lovely Gents' Lunch, where we celebrated two birthdays.

🎂Our dancing queen, Minnie, turned 90! A heartfelt moment came when Minnie's daughter gave a beautiful speech, sharing stories from Minnie's life. Our team added some extra magic by dressing up as Minnie Mouse to mark the occasion.

🐥 Our baby chicks are growing quickly! They've now moved into their spacious new home in the Orangery, where they can stretch their wings and explore.

🌹 The first rose bush has been planted in our newly relandscaped Memorial Garden by the front fountain, in loving memory of our dear former resident, Jean.

A quick reminder for visitors: Car park tarmacking is happening Monday–Wednesday this week, so parking is very limited. Please keep visits brief where possible to help everyone come and go easily. If you know someone planning to visit who may not have seen this, please pass it on. Thank you for your patience and support!

🌟 Last Week at Foxholes 🌟

We had a truly joyful week full of art, animals, music, and Easter fun! 🐰🐣🍫

🎨 Ros Allwood brought the North Herts Museum to us. She gave a fascinating talk on local art collections for Art Week.

🐣 Our annual Easter Egg Hunt was a hit with residents and little visitors alike.

🦉 Small animal encounters – including turtles, owls, and fluffy friends – brought smiles all around.

🎶 Fiona Harrison wrapped up the week beautifully with her wonderful performance.

Our residents love visits from children and animals – thank you to everyone who helped make this week so special! 💛

Today we’re playing catch-up and bringing you two weeks' worth of photos! 🐣🌼🎉

🎂 After a quiet spell on the birthday front, April has certainly made up for it — we’ve got a whole bunch of April babies to celebrate!

🚢 Jo returned with another fascinating talk about the Titanic, marking the anniversary of its sinking.

🐣 And finally… meet Rocky!

After a dramatic entrance into the world, this little chick has certainly earned their name. Rocky struggled to hatch on their own and needed lots of support — including a warm water and oil bath to help break free from the shell.

Once hatched, we discovered Rocky couldn’t stand or walk properly due to curled toes. But after a bit of research (and a lot of care), we crafted a tiny pair of custom-made sandals — and we’re happy to say that one week on, Rocky is thriving! Still smaller than the others, but catching up every day.

We’re still not sure if Rocky is a boy or a girl, but one thing’s for sure — they’re a little fighter. The remaining three chicks will be named during tomorrow’s Easter Egg Hunt by the children joining us for the festivities 🐥🌸
