Just went to the end of the garden and saw how bright the moon was. Looked up, remembered it’s a full moon tomorrow, and then saw this amazing opening in the clouds. It’s called a lunar halo — it happens when moonlight shines through ice crystals. Looks incredible though, doesn’t it

Carl Jung believed that the surest way to lose one's soul is to project the divine onto an external deity, because this prevents the individual from engaging in the crucial inner work of psychological integration. Believing in a god outside of oneself means that the individual fails to recognize and integrate the divine, or the Self, which is an inherent psychological experience and a totality of the personality, into their own conscious life.

Internal experience:
For Jung, God is not an external entity but a universal and direct experience of the inner Self, which represents the totality of the psyche, including both conscious and unconscious aspects.

Psychological integration:
"Losing one's soul" is a metaphor for failing to undergo the difficult but necessary process of individuation—the integration of all parts of the personality.

External vs. internal:
By believing in an external god, the individual disowns the powerful symbolic and numinous experiences that arise from the psyche's own depths, instead of integrating them into their life.

Self-discovery:
Jung argued that the path to psychological wholeness is found by following one's own unique inner path, which requires confronting both the conscious and unconscious parts of the Self, including the shadow.

Following the ego:
This is in contrast to a life dictated by the ego, which is a limited part of the self. Following an external god can be a way for the ego to avoid the hard work of facing the unconscious and integrating its contents, which can be frightening and chaotic.
