Whatâs Your WhyâŚ?
One of the most important things to consider when trying to lose weight is to understand what is your why..!
It may seem obvious, but itâs worth taking into account where you are in your life before answering this question, which I believe is so important for long term success.
When I look back to a time I seemed to effortlessly maintain my weight I reflect on my lifestyle.
I was a single mum, having come out of an incredibly volatile relationship, Iâd spent a lot of time alone with my new baby, my main objective was to maintain my body shape so I could fit into my clothes.
My why was all about being able to go out with confidence, I was single and wanted to meet someone to build a life with, I wanted to feel and look a certain way and at that period of time that came from being able to fit into my skinny jeans.
You never know the man of my dreams may come along and whisk me away to a tropical island, I needed to be bikini ready at all times, nowadays I may need a good few months to get bikini ready.
So, fast forward 10 years, Iâm now re-married, having met that man, have inherited two amazing step-children, have another little one, a beautiful little boy who I had at 38 and found myself not bouncing back so easily into my skinny jeans I faced a problem that was unfamiliar to me, I had to really work at losing this weight.
So, there I was, skinny jeans in front of me and after several years of trying could not work out why I couldnât maintain the motivation and consistency required for me to lose these stubborn pounds.
Then it dawned on me, I had never re looked at my why...?
So much had changed for me in those 10 years, my little boy was diagnosed at 2 with very complex special needs, a severe learning disability, profound autism and ADHD, not only was I using food as a âcomfortâ and a way to spend time to bond with my husband in what we faced, which were incredibly stressful times but also I really truly couldnât give a damn deep down whether I could get in those skinny jeans or not.
My why had changedâŚ!
So, for me, what does it look like now?
Itâs a mother who has to live forever and some so she can take care of her vulnerable little boy.
Itâs a woman who needs the strength to look after a vulnerable grown man.
Itâs a mother that can enjoy her adult children and have the energy to have fun with them.
Itâs a woman who can thrive in a relationship with her husband under overwhelming and sometimes exhausting circumstances.
So, now Iâve found my why and itâs all starting to make a little more sense.
Iâm more inspired so motivation is a little easier and the consistency to do the same thing every day to see the results when I look around at the life I want to live is there.
And after all, as my 17-year-old daughter reminded me just the other day as I was trying to squeeze a leg into my skinny jeans, âMum, skinny jeans just arenât in fashion anymoreâ đ¤ˇââď¸
