'DID NOT ATTEND' APPOINTMENTS

In 2025 we had a staggering 809 appointments booked by patients and not attended.

In some cases these were 'same day' appointments.

This is an average of 15.5 appointments per week - appointments which could have been offered to other patients in need.

We understand emergencies happen, but PLEASE, if you know you will be unable to attend your appointment, let us know with as much notice as possible so we can offer the appointment to someone else.

Things you can do to help:
📱Ensure your mobile number is up to date so you can receive text reminders
❎Cancel in good time if you cant make it - by text or phone (01702 202353)
📆Download the NHS app so you can see your booked appointments.
🛎️Set a reminder on your phone or smart speaker

Disappointingly, in the first 2 working days of 2026, we have already had 4 appointments booked and not attended.

Please help us to help you! Spread the word to your friends and family who are registered with us!

*UPDATE 08:22am* phones are working again - apologies for the blip.

*Wednesday 08 October 2025 - 08:17am* We have a fault with our phones this morning. We are urgently seeking to resolve this and apologise for any inconvenience. Please visit our website: greenswardsurgery.com to complete an eConsult if you are able to. The phone service seems to be intermittent.
We sincerely apologise for this disruption in service - our phone provider is aware and looking in to it.

We have just sent messages to all of our eligible patients inviting you to self-book for your flu vaccination this year. Clinics commence on the 4th October.

Please do follow the link to book your appointment. If you have the NHS app, you should be directed to book this via the App in the first instance.

If you do not have the NHS app installed yet, please consider downloading it from the Apple App/Google Play store or by visiting: https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/

The app also allows you to:
- order repeat prescriptions
- View and manage hospital referrals and appointments
- View your GP Health Record

Many of you will know our fabulous Practice Nurse, Janice, as she has treated generations of Hockley families.

Today, Janice celebrates 50 years since qualifying as a Nurse, and she has spent 40 of those years with us at Greensward Surgery. I'm sure you will agree that we are truly honoured to have such dedication.

*Missed Appointments*

During 2024, 781 booked appointments were not attended.

These were not cancelled in advance, to enable us to offer the slot to someone else.

This equates to just over 200 hours of clinical time.

These are not just GP appointments, they are all staff types and types of appointment, from a New Patient Review, Diabetes Monitoring to Vaccinations & Immunisations, GP emergencies and everything in between!

We understand emergencies can arise, but PLEASE where possible, let us know if you are unable/do not intend to attend your booked appointments with us. This can be done via text when you receive the appointment reminder.

As a team, we work incredibly hard and it is has a real impact on morale to see all this wasted time.

Help us to help you keep healthy!
