For families choosing what to do with loved ones ashes after cremation is a deeply personal decision.

Here at Woollensbrook we are able to carry out witnessed scattering of loved ones ashes within our grounds.
Our beautiful old oak tree, standing alone as you approach up towards the chapel beyond is one of our dedicated scattering areas. Providing a natural, peaceful last resting place.

We will prepare the ashes into a scattering urn and a member of the team will assist with the scattering service on the day. It can be simple or more unique. Readings, poems, prayers or simply just quietness, the time is entirely yours.
We have a memorial dedication bench nearby, allowing you to sit, reflect and remember any time you wish to visit. Our grounds are always open.

Please call in or speak with the team for more information about our scattering options.

We’re pleased to announce that Wessex Vale Crematorium will become our next SuperVenue, bringing immersive technology that enables families to create deeply personal and meaningful funeral services.

The chapel will temporarily close from Saturday 16 May, while state-of-the-art technology is installed, including immersive visual canvases, coordinated lighting and soundscapes, and enhanced welcome screens. The crematorium will reopen for services on Tuesday 2 June.

The SuperVenue concept, first unveiled in 2024, is transforming the way families can personalise funeral services, creating an atmosphere that truly reflects the life, passions, and personality of the person being remembered.

Wessex Vale becoming our next SuperVenue marks another step in our commitment to bringing this innovative experience to more crematoria across the UK, with further locations planned later this year.

This Mother’s Day, we recognise and celebrate the mothers and mother figures who have had such a meaningful impact on our lives and communities.

While the day is a time of appreciation and celebration for many, we also understand that it can be a time of reflection for those remembering a loved one. Across our sites, we are mindful of the different ways people may experience this day and continue to provide spaces where families can remember, reflect and honour those they hold dear.

To everyone celebrating, remembering or simply taking a quiet moment this Mother’s Day, we are thinking of you.

We’re proud to be supporting the inaugural Celebration of Celebrants event with Obitus today.

A big part of our conversations is around the SuperVenue technology and our plans to install it in even more Westerleigh Group crematoria across the country.

Connecting with the national community of celebrants and sharing ideas means that together we can continue evolving options for the bereaved and helping create even more personalised and meaningful farewells for families.

Today we mark International Women’s Day by celebrating the incredible women across our organisation who, directly or indirectly, play a vital role in supporting families through some of life’s most difficult moments.

Across our crematoria, grounds teams, operational roles and business support functions, their compassion, professionalism and dedication help us provide the highest standards of care to the bereaved and the communities we serve.

We’re also proud to work alongside colleagues who champion equality and support women to grow and lead within the funeral and bereavement sector.

To all of our female colleagues, champions and allies, thank you for the care, empathy and strength you bring to our work every day.

We’re pleased to share this week's progress updates across two of our newest developments, North York Crematorium & Memorial Gardens and Great North Crematorium & Memorial Gardens.

In North York (end of week 6), draining has been ongoing across the site, sub-structure brickwork was completed, and the steel decking and reinforcements were installed. Next week, the beam and blocks will commence and be completed.

Meanwhile, in Newcastle at Great North Crematorium (end of week 17), the gas membrane works are complete and ready for concrete pour, further car park works are progressing, and the brickwork and blockwork are continuing nicely.

We look forward to sharing further updates next week.

Mother’s Day can be a time of reflection, love and remembrance, but for many, it can also be a difficult day.

Across all 42 of our locations in England, Scotland and Wales, we are inviting anyone who is missing a mother or mother figure, and parents bereaved of a child, to visit our crematoria, cemeteries and natural burial grounds to honour their loved ones.

Each location will be marking the day in its own meaningful way, including lighting candles, writing tags to place on a memory tree, or taking a flower or wooden heart to place on a loved one’s memorial.

Whether your loss is recent or from years ago, our grounds remain open as peaceful spaces for quiet reflection.

We’re pleased to share continued progress across two of our newest developments, North York Crematorium & Memorial Gardens and Great North Crematorium & Memorial Gardens.

In North York (end of week 5), steel columns have been installed, sub-structure brickwork is progressing well on programme, and the drainage run is also ongoing across the site.

Meanwhile, in Newcastle at Great North Crematorium (end of week 16), the car park is progressing well, wind posts have been installed, and the first stage of gas membrane works has been carried out to the metal deck area.

It’s encouraging to see both developments progressing on programme, thanks to the continued collaboration and commitment from our contractor partners, Pacy & Wheatley Construction and T. Manners & Sons.

We look forward to sharing further updates as both sites continue to evolve.
