I’m Ros and this my before yoga and after yoga face.

I teach yoga for people in a similar age and stage as me and I do it because it makes me feel (and look) happy! (As well as all the other well documented benefits of yoga… )

Monkey Yogis are keen gardeners, some are Park Runners, they love visiting beautiful places and countries, they’re interested in age-ing well, good food, they’re passionate about friends and family, they’re busy juggling careers, families and modern living.

So a yoga class on line one with me fits into their busy lives.

I teach three live classes on Zoom each week, Wednesday at 7pm, Friday 7 am half hour, and Saturday at 9 am - choose the one that fits in your busy life (send me a PM)is

I’m taking January at a slower pace, not setting my usual list of self improvements and new adventures.

Instead I am settling my attention *lightly* on ‘getting back to it’.

I’m revelling in what I achieved last year and if a few things fell off the list as December became busy.. well I’m just ‘getting back to it’.

It feels like I’ve made a little space for things to happen (some of them unexpectedly!)…

We’ve been saying our walk mileage had dropped off at the end of 2023.

All the usual reasons…we had this bug or that bug, we were feeling low energy, we had December events which shortened our walking time, or we were just too busy.

Last Sunday we set off for our usual walk and out of the blue we were six miles in before we’d even noticed… getting home with just over nine miles under our belts!

Getting back to it!!!

So if your ‘getting back to it’ includes yoga… (or maybe you didn’t get round to it last year!)

Monkey Yoga is on Zoom every week for three live classes:

Wednesday at 7 pm - Nourishing Yoga (1 hr)
slow yoga class with lots of stretching, unwinding, unraveling and relaxation.

Friday at 7 am - Bright Start (1/2 hour)
Like it says on the tin! Start your day the right way! A stronger Vinyasa class with breath work and Savasana - packed into thirty minutes.

Saturday at 9 am - Sunshine Yoga (1hour)
Hatha Vinyasa style yoga, with breath work and relaxation techniques - an hour of breath and movement.

If you’d like to ‘get back to it’ and you’re not already a Monkey Yoga member then send me a quick personal message ❤️ would love you to join us!

I’m going to spend January ruminating on all I did last year.

I’m not overloading January with a big list of all the possible things I can fit into this month.

January can (and I’m not being gloomy here) be a tricky month, dark nights, short days, everything can feel a little flat after the twinkling lights of December.

So in January I’ll celebrate the little wins of ‘getting back to it’…

‘Getting back to it’ for me will include getting back to the gym after two weeks off! I’ve written it in my diary, I’ve got my kit ready, all I need to do is make sure to put my big coat on and drive the 6 minutes there tonight.

The rest will just happen once I’ve got that first step done.

I’m not thinking of a bigger picture, just the little things that will ease me on my way.

And if your ‘getting back to it’ includes yoga…

Monkey Yoga re-starts on Zoom this week for our usual three classes a week:

Wednesday at 7 pm - Nourishing Yoga (1 hr)
After a festive break, this will be a slow yoga class with lots of stretching, unwinding, unraveling and even some ruminating!

If you’d like to ‘get back to it’ and you’re not already a Monkey Yoga member then send me a quick personal message ❤️and I’ll send you my practical top tips for making yoga part of your life❤️

It’s more than a month now since I came back from the most wonderful, rejuvenating and reinvigorating week in Norfolk... but isn’t it easy to get wrapped up in the ‘busy-ness’ of life and forget all the things that you planned to do when you suddenly have MORE TIME?

Holidays and breaks give us those blue sky moments, a look over the parapet, how things could be without a constant to do list, agenda, appointments and meetings, but whatever our time constraints... living, happiness, is now and can’t be put off until we magically have ‘more time’...we need those blue sky moments in the every day.

Whilst I was away I had a really big think about what is important to me in yoga - from the miriad of potential benefits - right now.

The thing I came away with (quite apart from the physical benefits of increased strength, mobility and balance) is the holistic - whole body - experience.

The feeling that you can’t quite categorise -  you just feel better... head, body, inside, outside, top to toe - that for me comes from a combination of yoga poses, breathwork and uncomplicated, easy and accessible meditation which gives me time to notice and reflect.

A little blue sky moment on the mat.

So once a month, our Wednesday classes are slowing down, along the way we will do some breathwork, meditation and yin-inspired yoga.

The feedback from our first Yin-inspired class in October was lovely... from “slept better” to “amazeballs”!

This is your invitation to join us for our next Yin-Inspired and Yoga Nidra next Wednesday 29 November at 7 pm on Zoom. (Message me for the link, £4.50 for non-members drop in) ❤️

And whilst I’m de-bunking my motivations for being a yoga teacher…. if your motivation is that you want to be more flexible, swipe right to see where I was age 49… to now.

When I started yoga, I didn’t think of myself as being not flexible, I wouldn’t have told you I felt stiff or immobile. But the photos tell another story don’t they!

We don’t do the wheel pose in my classes (I just wanted to see if I could), but we do get more flexible, improve balance and strength. All needed if you fancy doing wheel pose too!

If you’ve read my posts or my bio, you will know I say that I do yoga for improved balance, mobility, the mind and body connection, heart health and longevity.

ALL of these are laudible motivations.

But guess what... they’re not why I do yoga!

I do yoga because...

I ❤️ yoga.

I love feeling stronger.
I love the progression.
I love my lung capacity increasing.
I love being able to take really big, deep breaths.
I love being able to climb over walls, gates, styles with ease.
I love moving around my mat.
I love the playfulness, hands on the mat with a leg in the air.
I love the friends I’ve made through yoga.
I love the body-positivity yoga gives me.
I love that my joints feel so much better.
I love the philosophy of yoga.
I love feeling more flexible after a few minutes of yoga.
I love yoga that helps with sleep.
I love yoga that gives me just enough energy to enjoy the evening after a tiring day.
I love yoga that wakes me up and starts my day.

And when we are thinking about health benefits, finding movement (or exercise) that you love is key.

Find what you love and keep doing it!

(Check out my goofy happy yoga face too 😂)

I’ve been away for a week in Norfolk (a few weeks ago… got back and life is just as busy and no time for posting!)

I had a total rest, taking time off from Monkey Yoga as well as from my non-yoga career.

Reconnected with friends and family, long walks, sea air, Qi Jong, good food, visited new places including a gorgeous Victorian Italianate garden in Norwich, Yin Yoga every day, lots of reading and quite a few afternoon naps!

I came back feeling rested, rejuvenated and reinvigorated.

I also came back with this question in my head - why do I do yoga?
