TRAINING DAY
A reminder that it is the third Tuesday of the month so the practice will be closed from 1pm today for practice staff training. Please note our phone lines are off for the afternoon. Pre-booked appointments will still be going ahead.
If you need to speak to a GP urgently please ring 111 and for emergencies please ring 999.
The practice will re-open tomorrow at 8am.

MAN ALIVE MONDAYS - MEN'S ACTIVITY CLUB

The man alive group is a friendly local group where men support each other's physical and mental health through social activities.
- Meet new people
- Try different things
- Get active
- Learn something new
- Have fun!

This group meets every Monday 18:30pm - 20:00pm starting from Monday 1st September 2025 at Holmfirth Cricket Club (Upstairs).

When you find out you are pregnant, you can refer yourself for NHS pregnancy care so you start care with a midwife right away.

Once you sign up online, the maternity team will contact you to book your first appointment with a midwife.

You should do this by the 10th week of pregnancy, if possible, but it’s never too late to start. If you're over 10 weeks, refer yourself as soon as you can.

Did you know we have an MSK First Contact Practitioner working in surgery? You can book a 20-minute appointment, in advance, for any new joint or muscular pain. Please call any day after 10am to book. Thank you.

FLU & COVID VACCINATIONS 2025

Dear Patients,
We will soon be sending out invitations to our eligible patients for their flu and covid vaccinations. Our clinics will be held throughout September/December.

The eligibility for covid vaccinations has changed which is completely out of our control. To be eligible for the covid vaccination you must;
- Be over 75 years old
- Living in a elderly patient care home
- Be severely immunocompromised

If you are eligible for either vaccination, we will send you a invitation by text or we will call you. Please do not call the surgery about this unless you have received a text message.

I had a great conversation with Caroline Shamsee, Clinical Services Manager at Oaklands Surgery Holmfirth, about the fantastic work they’re doing to address loneliness in the local community.

From social prescribing to community engagement initiatives, their team is making a real difference in helping people feel more connected and supported. Tackling loneliness is vital for both mental and physical health, and it’s inspiring to see such dedication at a local level.

'ORDER WHAT YOU NEED' CAMPAIGN

Around £18 million is wasted in West Yorkshire every year on unused medicines. This includes inhalers, pain medication and creams, across our region. By only ordering what we need we can make sure NHS resources go where they are most needed and reduce the environmental impact of avoidable medicines waste.

Ordering medicines when they aren’t needed can mean you end up with more than you need in your cupboard. Small changes in managing our medicines can make a big difference and help reduce medicine waste in West Yorkshire.

Medicine waste and throwing medicines away incorrectly not only costs money but also harms the environment.

Help stop waste. Check before you reorder and only order the medicines you actually need.
