🌟 Start of a New Half Term -Assessments Available

Tomorrow I start a busy half term at my centre. I already have 4 assessments booked this week, helping children understand their learning needs and get the right strategies in place. ✏️📚

My 1:1 dyslexia intervention sessions are full this term, but assessments are still available. If you’ve been thinking about getting support for your child, now’s a good time to book a dyslexia assessment.

The Schools White Paper, setting out proposals for SEND reform, has been published today.

Our legal team is carefully analysing the proposals. We’ll share our assessment of how they will affect children's right to provision that meets their needs, and we will post updates here as soon as we can.

We understand this is an unsettling time for families. The most important things to know right now are:

🔸The publication of the Schools White Paper does not immediately change the law.
🔹The SEND legal framework remains unchanged, and all existing legal duties continue to apply in full.
🔸The proposals set out in the White Paper are subject to consultation. We will share further information and guidance on the consultation shortly.

• Updates on changes to Children’s Social Care
• The panel’s work plan for 2025/26
• And other important topics

What is Scrutiny?

Scrutiny is a way of checking that local services are doing a good job. It helps make sure children, young people and families get the support they need.

The Scrutiny Panel:
• Checks the decisions and plans made by Cabinet
• Looks at how well services are working
• Examines issues or areas that could be improved
• Helps shape new ideas and policies before decisions are made
• Works as a ‘critical friend’ – supportive, but not afraid to challenge
• Makes sure the voices of children, families and residents are heard
• Works in a non‑political way – members leave party politics at the door

Scrutiny meetings are usually held in public, so you can watch and understand how decisions are made in your community.

Feeling so happy and overjoyed for another family today! 💙

I submitted an EHCP needs assessment application for their child at the start of January, after they’d previously been refused, and the local authority has agreed to assess!

Even more amazing — the LA responded in just 20 days! 🤞 Fingers crossed everything goes smoothly from here. 💙

Another win for EHCP Solutions!

After a long, exhausting battle, with the LA refusing to assess, ignoring mediation, and dismissing numerous complaints — we finally secured a full turnaround. The LA overturned their decision, carried out the assessment, and the child now has an EHCP with the specialist provision they need.

This is exactly why I love what I do! Standing beside families when the system makes it hardest, and making sure children get the support they are entitled to, will always be worth every moment.

So happy for this incredible child and their family. 💙⭐
