ARE YOU DIABETIC? You have probably been made aware of how important it is by your healthcare workers to take care of your feet with diabetes.
Here is just a little reminder again:
NHS diabetes foot care in Devon focuses on daily self-checks for cuts, blisters, or red spots, avoiding walking barefoot, and wearing well-fitting shoes. Key advice includes washing feet daily in warm (not hot) water, drying thoroughly (especially between toes), and moisturizing daily while avoiding the areas between toes.
Key Advice and Prevention
Daily Inspection:
Check feet every evening for cuts, swelling, or infected nails.
Footwear: Avoid walking barefoot, even indoors.
Wear well-fitting, supportive shoes and check for internal debris.
Hygiene: Wash daily with mild soap and dry thoroughly. Use moisturizing cream (not between toes).
Safety: Do not use over-the-counter corn remedies or sharp instruments on feet.
Socks: Wear clean socks daily without tight, elasticated tops or bulky seams.
When to Seek Urgent Help:
Contact your GP, podiatrist, or the NHS 111 service immediately if you notice:
An open, tearing, or bleeding sore.
A blister that does not heal...
or an unexplained red, hot, or swollen part of or whole foot.
Or signs of infection.
