Well done to those that ran over the weekend. What an achievement!👏
Now it's all about recovering.
Your legs may feel heavy, stiff and not that great. Don’t panic that’s completely normal. Your muscles are inflamed, your nervous system is fatigued, and your body is working hard behind the scenes to repair and rebuild.

Recovery massages this week aim to;
✔️Reduce muscle soreness and stiffness
✔️ Improve circulation and recovery
✔️Support your body whilst it repairs

What you can do to help yourself:
✔️ Gentle movement -short walks and light ✔️mobility exercise is great
✔️ Plenty of food- especially carbs and protein
✔️ Hydration and electrolytes
✔️Good quality sleep

What you don’t need:
❌️ Intense workouts
❌️ Beginning a new training plan
❌️ Ignoring your body

🍀 Good luck to those of you taking part in the Manchester Marathon this weekend!☘️

I’ve been working with a few marathon runners this year and the timing of appointments is the key to a successful race.

Together, we formulate a plan that deals with any ni**les and then going forwards, keep them on top form as they head to the day of the race.

Top tip: Get into an appointment early! This way we get on top any issues straight away so that training is smoother, consistent and more comfortable.

As we approach marathon day treatments become lighter. They incorporate gentler soft tissue work to improve circulation, reduce stiffness as they start tapering down and calm the nervous system. A calm nervous system = a calm body, the more relaxed you are, the more efficiently you can run.

Our very last appointment: pre- marathon massage. We don’t try anything new. We keep things simple and light. This session aims to support performance, so runners arrive at their race fresh, relaxed and ready.

Monday appointments are now available to book between 11.00- 17.00 from 27th April 2026.

Sports Therapy sessions and Biomechanics screenings look at why an area of pain is overloaded and considers;
How you move How load travels through your body What else is compensating What areas are not working efficiently

Treatment and rehab plans are aimed at the root cause and not just managing the symptoms.

Tennis elbow is a condition generally caused by overuse of the forearm muscles which can lead to strain on the outer elbow. Symptoms can include;
Pain/ tenderness on the outside of the elbow Weakness Gets worse with activity - inparticular lifting, gripping and twisting

The term overuse is used a lot but what does it mean?

Over time, repeated movements like gripping, lifting, typing and playing racquet sports can over load the tendon on the outside of the elbow. When a load exceeds what the tendon can withstand damage can occur.

If this cycle of events continues without the correct recovery then symptoms worsen. But why?
The tendon becomes irritated The structure weakens It becomes more sensitive to smaller movements Inflammation and pain worsen

The bigger picture

This injury can occur because of;
Lack of shoulder stability Reduced grip and control Poor wrist position Repetitive movements without appropriate rest

How to treat this
Sports Therapy Ultrasound Therapy Taping/ support Modifying load Strengthening tendons and surrounding muscle groups Addressing any contributing mechanical issue - shoulder instability/ wrist mechanics

Sports therapy sessions utilise a number of different techniques and modalities to help overcome injury and provide you with a tool kit for self care and injury prevention.

If you have a ni**le that just won't go away then book in @ www.kineticsmassagetherapies.com and begin your journey to recovery.

The shoulder is one of the most mobile joints in the body. The joint allows movement in multiple directions but the downside to this is that it can be unstable and prone to injury. The rotator cuff or as I like to think of them 'the support team' is a group of four muscles around the shoulder.

The rotator cuff compromises of four muscles - supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor and subscapularis. Their job: stabilise the ball and socket joint while fascilitating lifting and rotation whilst keeping the ball of the humerus centred in the socket of the joint.

When this team of four are working well everything moves smoothly and under control. When this joint is stable you are able to generate power and accuracy when pushing, pulling and performing overhead movements.

When this little group are not working well, overloaded or over used then injury strikes.

Look after the little ones and then building the big ones is a whole lot easier.
