Want to go vegan??? πŸ₯¦πŸ₯•πŸ«‘πŸ₯‘πŸŽ

The best place to start is speaking to a vegan nutritionist who can guide you along the way. A vegan diet can be great for your health and longevity, but it does require some planning, and knowledge of nutrition and cooking.

Simply cutting out meat, dairy and eggs from your diet is a recipe for disaster! You need to ensure that you replace these foods in your diet with nutrient-dense, plant-based alternatives.

Get in touch with me to learn more and find out how I can help you on this journey!

Quote of the Day! πŸŽ™

I heard this quote a few years ago, in relation to nutrition and health, and it comes to mind more and more frequently!

We all like to hear that we are doing the right things and living healthily, even if it may not be true. However, if you want to improve your diet and your health, the chances are that you need to make some changes!

The first step is to accept that changes need to be made, even if that feels a little overwhelming at first! Working with a nutritionist will provide that honesty and the support and motivation you need to start making these changes.

Sourdough September 2022! 🍞

This month we celebrate Sourdough September: a time to spread the word on the values of sourdough bread!

Sourdough is an excellent alternative to standard white bread, for a number of reasons! Not only does it taste so much better, it doesn't spike blood sugar the way white bread does. It also contains helpful live microorganisms, which are great for your gut and digestive health!

It's Vitamin D Time!

It's mid-September, and for those of us living in the UK and Ireland, this means its time to start taking vitamin D supplements again!

Our bodies don't produce enough from sunlight during the winter months, so a supplement is recommended by the NHS to avoid harmful deficiencies.

Did you know??? πŸ€”

Low back pain is strongly linked to carrying excess weight, particularly around your middle. The extra weight can cause the pelvis to tilt forward, leading to pain in the lower back.

Weight loss and exercise should be combined with physiotherapy in order to get the best outcome and avoid a recurrence of the pain.

Visit fitforlifeni.co.uk to find out more about our holistic approach to low back pain!

Why see a nutritionist???

A nutritionist is not just someone who tells you what to eat. A good nutritionist acts as a coach, mentor, support system, expert advisor, motivator and more!

Most of us need quite a bit of help when making diet and lifestyle changes, so it is more than worth the investment in speaking to a professional.

Quote for the Day!

'Eat food, not too much, mostly plants' - Michael Pollan

This is such a simple phrase but with so much good advice behind it!

Eat food - eat real food, not processed junk! Eat as much of your food in its whole, unprocessed form.

Not too much - don't eat until you are stuffed! Eat more slowly and mindfully, allowing your body to sense when it is full.

Mostly plants - even if you arent veggie or vegan, the majority of your diet should still be made up of plant-based foods! Fruit, veg, starchy carbs, nuts, seeds - these are all plants!

My Top Tips - Part 1: Veggies!

Leafy Greens - green leafy veg are the most nutritionally dense vegetables, packed with vitamins and minerals that are hard to find elsewhere in the diet. Eat them every day!

Half and Half - unsure how much veg you need to eat? Try this method: fill half your plate with vegetables, with the rest being your protein and carbohydrate sources.

Colours - Why? The colours of fruits and veg come from the various phytonutrients found in them. So, the more colours you eat, the more different nutrients you get!

Cruciferous vegetables - broccoli, sprouts, cauliflower and cabbage are great for your gut health and packed full of nutrients. Eat them every day if you can!
