Holywood Men's Shed

Holywood Men's Shed Holywood Men's Shed is for all men. It brings men together to do practical projects for the good of the community and promotes well being of participants.

What is a Men’s Shed? The Holywood men's shed is a social community group (with charitable status) that provides a safe, welcoming community learning space for predominantly retired members of the community, people out of work or going through life transitions due physical and mental health issues, bereavement or relationship breakdowns and the like. The aim of the men's shed is to prevent social

isolation, to provide a space for skill sharing and to engage with community development. The Holywood men's shed has been running since 2011. We currently support 25 volunteer members and engage in activities such as arts and crafts, woodwork and community development. We periodically run community events such as forest schools, foraging, easter egg hunts, halloween parties, etc. These are largely family and intergenerational activities and are open to the whole community. Over the past few years our members have worked very hard on inclusion for all. We have built a community enchanted sensory garden which is free to use and open to the public 24/7; it has been proven very popular with families and community groups alike. Please don't forget to share your photos and comments on our page to give others an insight to the wonderful space we provide to keep projects like this in the public eye and remember please enjoy do not destroy!

Robin was a founder member of Holywood Men’s Shed and played a pivotal role in the early days - without him we would not have secured the licence for our premises at the Stable Yard. He was tenacious and very hardworking- full of creative ideas! Our condolences go to Rosemary and his family. Thank you Robin🙏

Really sorry to hear the very sad news that Robin Masefield CBE has passed away, Robin was dedicated public servant, committed community champion, prolific author and historian. My thoughts and prayers are with Robin's family and friends at this difficult time.

Would you like to learn more about dementia?
➡️If you live near Henderson Court in Knocknagoney you are welcome to attend a Dementia Friends session on Tuesday 20th May at 2pm.
👥Dementia Friends is an Alzheimer’s Society initiative to increase dementia awareness and change the way people think, talks, and act about dementia.
✅A Dementia Friend is someone who has attended a free 60-minute information session and committed to an action that will make the lives of people living with dementia a little bit better.
😊This could be as simple as being patient in a shop queue or raising awareness of dementia on social media.
There’s no need to book, but it would be helpful if you phone or text Nicola, the Henderson Court Scheme Co-ordinator on 077 1856 2917 in advance.📲
