We are very pleased to provide an update on the refurbishment work at the Surgery.

Following the reopening of the upstairs rooms on the 14th July, we have now completed the refurbishment of another 4 rooms and also replaced the flooring across the majority of the ground floor. Our contractors have also been busy redecorating the corridors in the evenings and weekends.

We have also been making good progress on the remainder of the ground floor rooms. New storage and sink units will be arriving shortly. This is a significant phase of works, during which all of the storage and sink units in this section of the building will be replaced and modernised. We hope that these rooms will reopen in early September following the completion of the works.

This will leave one final phase of work to replace the flooring in 3 rooms and a small section of corridor. We hope that this will be finished by the end of September, following which the programme of works will be completed.

Once again, we are really grateful for the support, patience and understanding or our patients, staff and local community during the refit. We are also grateful to all of our contractors who have worked tirelessly to complete the refurbishment so quickly.

Flood Update 7.7.25:

We are very pleased to inform you that we are approaching the end of the first phase of our refit and the rooms on the first floor should be reopened by Monday the 14th July.

This is a really important milestone, as it enables us to reopen 7 consulting rooms which have been closed since the start of January.

We have also been making good progress on the downstairs rooms, and are expecting new flooring to be laid during the week of the 7th July. However, there is still much to do and we anticipate the work continuing for several weeks to come.

Over the next few weeks we will also be starting work on some of the corridors. In order to minimise disruption, this work will be done at weekends. However you may notice that there is some temporary flooring in the corridors, whilst the work is completed.

Once again, we are very grateful for the support, patience and understanding of our patients, staff and local community during the refit.

Important Patient Update: Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) for Weight Management

You may have seen recent media coverage about the availability of Mounjaro (tirzepatide), a new medication for managing obesity and type 2 diabetes.

As of 23rd June 2025, NHS England has approved Mounjaro for prescribing to specific patient groups under strict eligibility criteria. However, NHS Devon has not yet implemented this service locally, and GP surgeries in Devon have been advised against the independent initiation of tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) prescribing for weight management until the point at which further guidance is provided.

What this means for our patients:

- Please do not contact the surgery to request Mounjaro at this time. We are not yet able to prescribe this medication.

- Once the service is developed and local prescribing is approved, we will update out website and social media and we may contact eligible patients directly at this point. You do not need to take any action now.

We understand this may be disappointing for some patients, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. We will provide updates as soon as local guidance changes.

In the meantime there are a number of local weight management services currently available for people living with obesity or overweight. Here is a link to the services available in Devon:

Thank you for your continued support.

Leaving GP Partner : Dr Jennie Button

It is with mixed emotions that we announce the upcoming departure of one of our GP Partners, Dr Jennie Button.

We wish to thank Dr Button for her exceptional service to Honiton and the local community. As she embarks on her next chapter, we extend our wishes for every success and happiness. Dr Button will be dearly missed by all.

Dr Button's last working day will be Thursday, June 19th. We are currently in the process of reallocating her patients to a new GP Dr Luke Randle, who starts at the practice in July.

Please see special announcement below:

"I will be leaving Honiton Surgery at the end of June 2025 having been a GP at this practice since May 2008. I started as a locum and then became a partner. When I started there was very noisy building work happening to extend the practice and now I am leaving when there is more building work, this time due to the recent flood! Being a GP here has been an adventure with constant change and NHS challenges including Covid. We have a fantastic team here, really committed to good patient care. It has been an enormous privilege to look after so many patients over so many years alongside this supportive team and I would like to take this opportunity to thank my practice colleagues, and wish my patients the very best for the future. I will be taking a short break to walk, run and cycle (lots!) before doing some locum work"
Dr J Button

We are delighted to inform our patients and local community, that work to repair the areas of the practice that were damaged in a water leak earlier this year, are due to start next week.

The repairs are expected to take at least 16 weeks in total, however we are hopeful that some of the damaged areas can reopen sooner, allowing us to resume seeing patients there earlier.

We would like to reassure you that the surgery will be open as normal during the repairs. As with any building work, there may be some disruption and you may find that the car park is busier than normal, however we will be working closely with the contractors to keep the disruption to a minimum.

Once again, we are really grateful to all of our patients, local community and staff, who have shown us so much support, patience and understanding over the last few months. Hopefully the end is in sight and the building will be fully restored within the next few months.

We will keep you updated as the work progresses.
