HI just a quick up date with some EXCITING NEWS. I mentioned in a previous post that I have become a fully Comprehensive Pilates teacher and my in-depth course specialised in using Pilates for Rehabilitation. I’ve been using this approach to compliment my Soft Tissue Therapy treatments for a while now as manual therapy and movement work well together. However, I am now in a position to be able to offer 1 -2 -1 Pilates sessions using a combination of mat work and Equipment. I have invested in a Reformer specifically for this purpose. These machines offer a greatly enhanced Pilates session compared to mat work alone and can be particularly beneficial for rehabilitation needs.
Benefits of One-to-one Pilates sessions.
After an initial free consultation and assessment. the Pilates programme will be very specifically tailored to suit the individual needs of your body. The idea of an individualised Pilates programme is to balance the muscles, Strengthening the weak and stretching those which are overused and tight. Once posture is improved, the body is realigned, the muscles of the pelvic girdle are in a position to become stronger and as a result back pain and posture related problems can become eliminated. However, Pilates exercises are very subtle and the slightest recruitment of the wrong muscle groups will override the exercises and negate the benefit. During a one-to-one session, it’s easy for me to correct these mistakes. You will be taught to align your body perfectly before starting each exercise and then encouraged to focus on individual muscle groups and work them without putting strain on other areas. You will be cued and corrected throughout each individual movement to get the absolute best out of each and every exercise. Things won’t get missed or bad habits formed because I am only looking at you!!
Once you understand that connection of the mind and body We will progress at a speed and pace that is relevant to you and your level of ability. There is no point moving to more advanced exercises until you have really mastered the Pilates fundamentals as only then are you truly doing Pilates and allowing the more advanced Pilates exercises to be done safely with maximum benefit.
Benefits of using Mat and Equipment together.
The benefits of Pilates technique can be achieved far more quickly when including studio equipment with specifically designed springs and ropes. There are literally hundreds of exercises that can be performed and these can be adapted for individual ability and conditions, ranging from post-surgical rehabilitation to a programme tailored to professional sports players. Using the Pilates equipment not only adds interest and fun to the exercises but also using the resistance and support of the springs allows you to improve flexibility and balance, lengthen and strengthen muscles to achieve far greater results than just doing mat work exercises alone.
Pilates is beneficial for everybody both sporting and non-sporting. I tell my clients if you build a house without a solid foundation eventually it will break down. I see Pilates as the foundation that enables the body to stand strong and cope with the stresses and strains of everyday life and the demands put upon it with sporting performance.
