So more advice from our Osteopath, Anthony Brindle!
Good posture also supports circulation. Poor posture, such as slouching during prolonged sitting, can restrict blood flow, particularly in the legs. This can lead to swelling and discomfort. Conversely, maintaining an upright posture promotes better venous return, allowing blood to flow efficiently back to the heart. Research supports that maintaining neutral spinal alignment reduces the risk of circulatory problems.

Here are Anthony Brindle's views on posture and breathing.
Proper posture allows the diaphragm to function effectively, enhancing breathing efficiency. Poor posture, like slouching, compresses the diaphragm, reducing lung capacity and leading to shallow breathing. Good posture, especially when sitting or standing upright, allows the chest to expand fully, improving oxygen intake and lung volume. Studies show that upright posture improves lung volumes, highlighting its positive impact on respiratory function.

Anthony Brindle, one of our Osteopaths, says that posture directly influences how our body moves. Good posture aligns the body in a way that allows forces to be distributed efficiently during physical activity, reducing strain on muscles and joints. This improves movement efficiency and reduces the risk of fatigue and discomfort.

Proper alignment of the spine and limbs allows muscles to engage and support the skeleton effectively, which reduces wear and tear on joints and ligaments. In contrast, poor posture can cause certain muscles to be overworked while others are underutilised, leading to imbalances and discomfort.

A wonderful testimonial to Garry Coles, our hypnotherapist.
Garry works at the Clinic every Friday and needless to say, he is in demand!
Call the Clinic on 01256 702140 to book an appointment or call Garry direct.

Garry has been an exceptional hypnotist from start to finish. I had 4 sessions going over my anxiety. We dug deep into the cause, why it was still affecting me and got a solution at the end. I’ve tried everything for the past 23 years, from medication, counselling, and fully believing I’d be stuck like this forever. That was until I met Garry, I’m now back on track to like I was all those years ago, I feel lighter, happier, more positive, and I look forward to things I used to be anxious about.

Thank you for giving me my life back, Garry, I genuinely mean that. Highly recommended.

Anthony Brindle, one of our Osteopaths, has written the latest article on why posture matters. He explores the role of posture in various aspects of physical health and how osteopathy can improve posture and function.
Posture is often seen as just the way we stand, but it plays a crucial role in how our bodies function every day. Maintaining good posture is linked to better overall physical health. From the efficiency of movement to the effectiveness of breathing and circulation, proper alignment supports your body in ways that can impact both short and longterm wellbeing.
All will be explained in later posts!

The summer is now upon us and I’m sure you are all hoping to make the best of the weather with days out and you may be going on holiday. Well so are most of the population and the chances are you’ll get caught up in congested traffic!

I hope you are all now aware that our backs are not designed for being sedentary and for those that have existing back issues, the likelihood of your back seizing up on a long car journey is greater. Ensuring you are sitting comfortably and minimising the stress on your body is essential, however long your journey. Osteopathy can also help you by making sure that your back is in good order before you set off.
