Targeted Lung Health Checks are now available in Horley!

If you're aged 55 to 74 and are a current or former smoker, you may be eligible for a free lung health check - provided we have your smoking status on record.

These checks are part of the NHS Lung Cancer Screening Programme, designed to detect lung problems early, when treatment is more likely to be effective and less complex.

Look out for a yellow envelope in the post. If you receive one, please take up the invite - it could save your life.

Regular breast screening can find breast cancer before you feel it or notice any symptoms. If you are a woman, aged 50 or over, you'll be invited for breast screening every 3 years, until your 71st birthday.

If you think you should have breast screening, but you are not invited automatically by the time you are 53, contact your local breast screening service.

World Pharmacists Day is a great time to recognise the expert care and support your local pharmacy provides every day.

Through the Pharmacy First service, community pharmacists can help with seven common conditions - without the need for a GP appointment or prescription. The conditions are:

- Earache (aged 1–17)
- Impetigo
- Infected insect bites
- Shingles
- Sinusitis
- Sore throat
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women aged 16–64

Your pharmacist can offer advice, treatment, and in some cases, medication — quickly and conveniently.

If your child has asthma, a few simple steps can help them stay well and enjoy life to the fullest. The campaign encourages parents and carers to talk to their GP or asthma nurse about:

✅ Having a personalised asthma action plan
✅ Checking inhaler technique
✅ Booking regular asthma reviews
✅ Being aware of air quality and triggers

These small actions can make a big difference - especially around the start of the school year, when asthma symptoms often flare up.

On Sunday 7th September at 3pm, the UK government will test the Emergency Alerts system.

The test will be sent to all compatible 4G and 5G mobile phones and tablets across the UK. You will hear a loud siren-like sound, your phone will vibrate, and a message will appear on the screen confirming that this is a test. The sound and vibration will last for about 10 seconds. You will not need to take any further action.

WHAT IF I NEED TO TURN THE ALERT OFF?
The Emergency Alerts system is an important tool for reaching the public in emergency situations. However, if you need to turn off these alerts (including the test), visit https://www.gov.uk/alerts/opting-out for step-by-step instructions.
