Following campaigning in memory of Benedict Blythe, the Government has committed to mandatory statutory guidance on allergy safety in schools, due to come into force from September 2026.

This marks a clear move towards schools being required to maintain access to emergency adrenaline auto injectors, ensure staff are trained in allergy recognition and emergency response, implement individual allergy action plans, and adopt a whole school allergy policy.

This represents important progress for patient safety and the prevention of avoidable allergic emergencies in school settings.

Cold weather and frequent hand washing can worsen hand eczema.

Restoring the skin barrier through regular use of non perfumed emollients helps reduce flare ups and improve skin resilience. Prescribed topical treatments may also be required and should always be used as directed.

Protecting your hands means avoiding harsh soaps and detergents and choosing soap substitutes or emollient based cleansers instead. Identifying individual triggers is an important step in preventing ongoing flares. Patch testing may be helpful if symptoms persist.

Ouch!!! Is Breastfeeding Supposed to Hurt?

The short answer? No, it shouldn’t.

Many of us have heard it before:
“Your ni***es are just sensitive.”
“It’ll get better in two weeks, they just need to toughen up.”
Sound familiar? You’re not alone, but that doesn’t make it true.

If breastfeeding makes your toes curl, or feels like your baby has a mouthful of needles and broken glass, please know that this is not normal and there is help available.

Some common causes of painful feeding include:
• Shallow latch
• Oral restrictions (like tongue/lip/buccal ties)
• Weak suck
• Mouth-to-nipple mismatch
• Baby feeling unsupported (triggering the Moro reflex)

👉 Close – Keep your baby close, no gaps between your bodies
👉 Head Free – Don’t hold their head while feeding
👉 Inline – Head, neck, and body should be in a straight line
👉 Nose to Ni**le – Helps baby tilt their head for a deeper latch
👉 Supported – Use cushions, pillows, or arm support to make sure both of you are comfortable
