🔦This week's Celebrant Spotlight falls on Norfolk Civil Celebrant, Pam Wilks. She is a regular at St Faiths and we always enjoy working with her! 🔦
I became a celebrant just over six years ago after thirty years as a Primary School Teacher. Within the previous two years, I had sadly lost first my mum and then my dad. We were lucky enough to have an amazing celebrant for both of my parent’s services, and the very personal and caring way in which the whole process of planning and arranging the funerals was handled led to my decision to retire from teaching and train as a celebrant. Through sheer chance I discovered Mulberry Days and the wonderful Tina Bowden, and I completed my training in 2019. Having worked as a part of that brilliant team until Tina’s recent retirement, I now work as an independent celebrant.
My aim is to bring the caring, personal touch to every service, and to help the families with whom I work to create a service for their loved one by focusing on the individual, and to lead a celebration of life which truly reflects their personality.
I consider it a real privilege to be able to support families through such a difficult process, and ultimately to deliver a funeral which allows them to mourn the loss of their loved one, but also to celebrate that life in whatever way they wish. I have found that chatting about a loved one’s life, focusing on the happy memories, often seems to lighten the burden of grief a little for the family.
Whether a cremation, burial or memorial, I strive to make each farewell individual and personalised, and I am lucky to work with such professional teams of funeral directors and crematorium staff.
Working so closely with bereaved families is often emotionally draining, so I like to relax with some crochet, cooking, walking, and - not exactly relaxing - Zumba classes!
