Why MHMT, why now?
Why MHMT Sports Massage Therapy exists is equal parts necessity and desire. After some personal issues I was looking for something to focus on and give me something to aid my fitness job and support my career as a professional musician. I studied with the YMCA last year to become a sports massage therapist in a view to helping sportsmen and women who, like me, frequently become injured through our hobbies. It’s also there for creatives and their professions.
What does MHMT stand for?
Matt Hobson Massage Therapy or Matt Hobson Musical Theatre. Both. It shows two sides of me. I’m here to help the sports person but I’m here to assist the Musical Theatre life in their touring. The strain that the bodies of musicians, actors and stage crew go through throughout their year is remarkable and I feel, as a professional drummer and percussionist, I’m best placed to aid these companies in giving affordable therapy to the cast. I’m here to iron out the knots and aches from sitting in a pit, as a musician with forced posture for the instrument; the terrible shoulder and back from lifting heavy staging and the aches and pains, and stress from performing 8-9 shows a week, every week.
As a former competing runner in the Royal Marines Band Service I know the aches from running long distances. I know the training and as a former instructor with well known outdoor British fitness company I’m here to train people to their fullest potential and help them with professional rehab style massage therapy too.
