NHS Sussex ICB have published their position on Weight loss injections being prescribed on the NHS.
Current rules on prescribing on NHS for weight loss medications from the GP are very strict, please do not contact the surgery requesting appointment for weight loss INJECTIONS medications from your GP you will be contacted directly if you are eligible for direct access to them in the next 4-6 weeks.
Qualifying criteria is a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 40 or greater

AND four or more of the following diagnosed health conditions:
• type 2 diabetes
• Hypertension
• Cardiovascular disease
• Obstructive sleep apnoea
• Dyslipidaemia
We understand that some people may feel frustrated or disappointed if they are not eligible for INJECTION medication-based treatments directly from the GP but there are still other options avalible and we can offer support and help still.
First step = Tier 2 Support
Our local wellbeing hub can offer you the other options that must be tried 1st before considering Injections and other medication options. please see our wellbeing hub

Second Step Tier 3
If Teir 2 support does not achive the intended weight loss then the next option will be to access our local teir 3 support services where with additional support you may be considered for prescribed injections along side a Support program.
Critera to access medications is less strict than via the GP surgery for Teir 3 support you must be over 18
AND
Fully engaged & completed a Tier 2 programme without losing 5% whilst being compliant
AND one of:
☐ BMI >40 kg/m2 OR
☐ BMI >35 kg/m2 with co-morbidities OR
☐ BMI of >30 kg/m2 with type 2 diabetes and is considering bariatric surgery OR
☐ BMI of >27.5 kg/m2, with recent-onset type 2 diabetes and who are of a South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean family background

At the surgery if you have spoken to the local wellbeing hub, we can also make referals to weight loss services who can support you with your weight managment with diet and counciling they can also discuss an innitiate weight loss medications.

Please also be aware if you’re currently taking weight loss injections privately they do interact with several other medications including:
CONTRACEPTIVE medications
Diabetic medications
When starting medications you should be discussed with the company all your other medications to ensure there is not an interaction.
