Yoga Flow with Karen

Yoga Flow with Karen Hatha Yoga classes following Patanjalis 8 Limbs. Breath, postures, flowing sequences, meditation and deep rest. Private tuition, workshops, corporate .

Interest in Functional Yoga Movement, Yoga Therapy and Yoga Nidra - The Art of Transformational Sleep I have been practising yoga for almost 20 years and teaching Hatha Yoga now for 16 years , I'm a Yoga Registered Teacher (YRT -200hrs) with the Independent Yoga Network and am qualified with The British School of Yoga. I also hold a British Wheel of Yoga Foundation Course Certificate and am fully

insured. My background is in Occupational Therapy where I specialised in Mental Health, however I left the NHS after fighting lymphatic cancer in my 20's twice, to re-train as a yoga teacher. Yoga supported me so much through this challenging illness, which was the single most humbling thing that has ever happened to me . I wanted to make Yoga a permanent part of my life and inspire others to do so. I have experience of supervising student -teachers, and in recent years, have been a contact teacher for The Yoga Alliance. Since teaching, three of my past students have become qualified yoga teachers themselves with classes of their own. In addition to community classes , I have taught in corporate offices - Barr Soft Drinks , I've also been involved in Community based Summer projects for children providing weekly classes ( Westhoughton council) . Past clients- Bolton school ( children's yoga to leavers Year 6s) and Croft House Childrens Nursery. I'm currently teaching staff at Gaskell Primary school Bolton. I have experience of teaching yoga to those with disabilities and currently teach clients with cerebral palsy, Parkinson's disease and MS in my mainstream classes. I am also a qualified Nutritional Adviser, Reiki Master Practitioner and a busy Mum of two young girls. Flowing Hatha Yoga Classes for all, beginners especially welcome. Classes interweave the 8 limbs of Yoga and include postures with easy, flowing sequences (vinyasas), breathing practise, relaxation and meditation. Please bring your own yoga mat and blanket for the relaxation at the end of class, and wear comfortable unrestrictive clothing. I have some mats I can also lend out, and all equipment. Welcoming, fun and relaxing classes taught by one of the most experienced teachers in the area. You do not have to be bendy to begin, just start from where you are, all poses can be modified to suit. I teach from a place of "Ahimsa" (non-harm, safety), there are no judgements, expectations or competition in yoga. All postures and modifications are taught safely with a sensible approach where we move mindfully with emphasis on "feeling" with awareness. From Mid September

One to one and small groups are a perfect way to get that personalized bespoke teaching that I can't always do fully in class .

My clients will tell you that in class it can be rather funny as I go from person to person watching and advising them personally , whilst they are still hanging in a down dog or have done 20 planks 😂 They sense my mild despair as I don't get the time in a class to do this as fully as I can see they individually need.

I get to know my clients so well because they often stay with me for a very long time.
When I'm teaching a class , I see how they individually move and breathe , and how their bodies are so unique and can over compensate for a lack of mobility or support somewhere. I can observe where they habitually hold tension , where their strength and flexibility is and how they could access it more.

I can see how my clients could personally make yoga work much more for them....

In a class setting, I have to cue people generally as a group, but rely on my quality of teaching to facilitate their self awareness so they can tap into their own guidance and adjust things where needed
After all , they are in their own bodies with their own unique orthopedic profile , their own feelings, needs , motivations.

Coming to see me individually is the perfect way to help you develop this mind -body connection much quicker than in a class setting especially if you're a newcomer .
With this knowledge, you then become confident at adjusting your yoga to make it work for you. You can then bring that awareness to class, adjust as you go and get more out of community sessions.

Depending on what your intent is to practice , in the long run , one to ones can be more cost effective as you really can get more benefits out of the community classes you pay for.

One to ones are completely bespoke and tailored to you with a therapeutic approach if needs be ( as a qualified Occupational therapist I often use yoga as a therapeutic tool ).

They are taught in my cosy yoga studio overlooking Silver Birch woods in Lostock 🌳 Weather dependent, we often move to the garden 🌞
I can teach up to 4 in a group privately ( split the cost between yourself ) and can even travel to you if you have the space. My most recent small group was a lovely small team of hairdressers with shoulder/ neck and upper back issues.

Private classes are a lovely, informal and relaxed way to enjoy your practice.

See it as a gift to yourself , an investment for your own wellbeing 🙏

Spring has well and truly sprung this week! I'm outside prepping yoga classes with Miley cat surrounded by new life , productivity and flow . There's a nest of noisy starling chicks being fed on my roof 😂

✨Unlocking your Body's Potential - The Power Of Transferable Skills ✨

When you come along to one of my yoga classes you're not only being taught by an experienced Yoga teacher of almost 20 years , but a qualified Occupational Therapist and Nutritional Advisor, Reiki master , a yoga student (always learning), a carer , Mother , Wife, and two time cancer survivor, amongst others !

A wealth of lifetime experience and knowledge that I draw on to plan and implement your classes .

I worked as an Occupational Therapist for 8 years for the NHS before training to be a yoga teacher in 2006.
One of the strongest skills an Occupational Therapist has is to create and deliver a tailored , person centred practise . This is done through observation , assessment , adapting, modifying and finding solutions.

This experience assists me in teaching as I facilitate you to be able to modify yoga for yourself by building your body awareness. With practice you learn to safely adjust your yoga poses and sequences to suit your own individual body physiology, needs , motivations and health goals.
In this way there's no more " I'm too old " , " I'm not flexible enough" , " I have health issues" .
ANYONE and EVERYONE can access yoga.

When Yoga is used as a therapeutic tool everyone can benefit from this amazing system to enhance their health and wellbeing. Over the decades I have taught , I've seen clients begin to develop their awareness and find their unique strengths. It's so rewarding...

They are able to keep doing the things they love for longer because through yoga , they learn how to work with their own unique physical attributes. The result is building great functional strength to support healthy aging - meeting their personal targets; a lowered stress response , improved lung function, neuroplasticity , immunity, and regaining trust and confidence in themselves.
They also find a lovely community vibe in the friendly welcoming classes and some make life long friends ..

⭐2025 is upon us and what better time to focus on you and your wellbeing . Classes begin again this week so be quick and drop me a message to book on!

⭐Wednesday 12.30 - The Hub Westhoughton ⭐Thursdays 10.30am - Rivington One studio Horwich

I've been welcoming newcomers and introducing them to the benefits of yoga for 18 years now , so you can trust that you'll receive experienced guidance and support on your yoga journey.

The yoga I teach is primarily hatha - breathing , postures , slow flow and deep relaxation. I theme classes to a variety of topics for example - seasonal energy, philosophy, spinal care , mental health, The 5 Elements.
There is always emphasis on maintaining and improving functional movement patterns in classes too so you are encouraged to listen to your own inner guide, move safely within your range of motion according to your own body . By doing this , we keep and build balanced, supported, flexible and strong bodies in a safe way.

Friendly daytime classes in lovely venues , with the option to pay as you go or book a block.
If you've never done yoga before, don't worry, just start from where you are . There's no expectation or judgement in my classes and there's certainly no pressure to be bendy like a pretzel! 🥨 😆

Also open to private clients and small groups ( 1-3). Message for more information
