The team had the privilege of accompanying “Our Bill” on his final journey — a much loved husband to June, devoted Dad to Shirley, proud Grandad to Victoria, and cherished “Grandad Kit-Kat” to Rosie and Albie.

Bill arrived at Overdale Crematorium to the stirring sound of bagpipes playing Highland Cathedral, breaking the silence with a fitting tribute to his Scottish roots.

His coffin, handcrafted and finished with Harris Tweed, was adorned with a beautiful arrangement of roses, thistles and seasonal flowers in recognition of his heritage. As the service came to a close, Bill was surrounded by red roses — a final gesture of love and respect from those closest to him.

During the service, celebrant Rai shared Bill’s story, with every word of the eulogy reflecting the deep love and dedication he had for his family throughout his life.

Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

At Deighan’s Funeral Parlour, we work tirelessly to provide every family in our care with the very highest standards of support, professionalism and compassion.

Alongside attending conferences, seminars and exhibitions — and continually learning from colleagues across the funeral profession — we also believe the most important opinions are yours.

So we would like to ask a simple question:

What is the most important thing you consider when choosing a funeral firm to care for your loved one?

For example....
Is it compassion?
Trust?
Communication?
Attention to detail?
Facilities?
Availability?
Reputation?
Or simply feeling that your loved one is being treated with genuine dignity and respect?

We would really value your thoughts and experiences.

Please feel free to comment below.

This week, we were pleased to welcome inspectors from the National Association of Funeral Directors for one of their routine unannounced visits.

These inspections are carried out without notice, allowing them to see our funeral homes operating exactly as they do every day, caring for families and loved ones in our community.

We were incredibly proud to hear that Deighan’s Funeral Parlour is considered to be ahead of many other funeral homes in certain areas of practice and standards.

For us, it has never been about simply meeting expectations. We believe that every family deserves the very highest standards of care, dignity and professionalism at all times — and that is why we do what we do, the way we do it. Because it is simply the right thing to do.

The funeral world in the UK has been silenced by legal wrangling and solicitor's cease and desist letters to many firms regarding their views on certain national firms.
This client has decided to share her story with you all.....
We all have the right to make choices on what we want to happen, but the most important thing is that we all make informed choices.

**Waiting Times – Being There When You Need Us Most**

Over the past few days, we’ve been reminded just how important a prompt and compassionate response can be at the moment of loss. For families, those first hours matter deeply — not just practically, but emotionally too.

Some families are waiting up to 8 hours for an undertaker to attend across the country.

At Deighan’s Funeral Parlour, every call is answered with urgency and care. From the moment you contact us, we begin making arrangements to attend as quickly as possible — unless you ask for a little more time, or if we are already supporting another family. If there is ever a delay, we will always keep you informed and be honest about when we’ll be with you.

Recently, we were asked to step in and help a family in difficult circumstances. It wasn’t about anything other than doing what was right — offering dignity, care, and support when it was needed most. The gentleman was placed into bed from the floor whilst the funeral firm could get there.

We believe that what matters isn’t size or scale, but the level of care, communication, and compassion you receive.

Deighan’s Funeral Parlour is here for you — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — ready to support you whenever you need us.

Funerals can be stressful and emotional occasions, and with an ageing population, slips, falls and sudden collapses are things that can sadly happen.

As we continue to put families at the heart of everything we do, Stacey and Rebecca will today be attending an advanced first aid training course to further enhance their skills and provide an additional level of care when needed — both at our parlours and while out on ceremonial duties.

The rest of our team will also be attending the same course soon, so that the families in our care can be reassured that we are there to help not only with the funeral itself, but also if emergency care or first aid is ever needed.

It is with great sadness that the team at Deighan’s Funeral Parlour announce the passing of Shirley’s Dad, Bill.

Bill passed away at Royal Bolton Hospital on Friday 24th April.

At this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with Bill’s wife, June, Shirley, and all of the wider Deighan family.

Funeral details will be shared as soon as they are available.

An early start for Rai and Ste this morning as they started the final part of a lady's journey home to Ireland.
With a very smooth sailing, the care of this much loved lady was handed over to the Funeral Director in Ireland to carry her to her final place of rest.
With a couple of hours still to travel, the team are now back in England and heading home.
Always a privilege to help someone get home to their place of rest......

Recent News & Our Standards

You may have seen recent high-profile news reports highlighting deeply concerning practices within parts of the funeral profession. It’s understandably upsetting, and at times like this, families deserve reassurance about the care their loved ones receive.

While there is currently no legal requirement for funeral providers to be members of a professional trade body, at Deighan’s Funeral Parlour we have always chosen to go further.

We are proud members of both the National Association of Funeral Directors and Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors — organisations that set, inspect, and uphold the highest standards across the profession.

Our parlours are regularly inspected and audited, and we consistently meet and exceed those standards. We also actively engage with guidance from these bodies, always looking at how we can evolve.

Our team regularly attends industry conferences and training events, ensuring we stay at the forefront of best practice, innovation, and care.

Above all, we remain committed to what matters most — providing compassionate, professional, and dignified care to every person entrusted to us, and to every family we support.

From the very first call, to the moment you feel ready to walk forward again, we will be there — with care, with respect, and with unwavering standards.

We do things a little differently

When it comes to direct cremation, at Deighan’s Funeral Parlour we focus on keeping everything personal, local, and transparent.

Your loved one is brought into our care by our own team and looked after at our facilities in Horwich or Adlington. This means they remain close to home, in familiar surroundings, under the care of people you can meet and speak with directly.

All arrangements are made face to face with our team, ensuring you always have a consistent point of contact and clear guidance throughout.

The cremation itself takes place at a nearby crematorium, allowing everything to remain within the local area.

We believe that every direct cremation deserves the same level of dignity, care and attention as any attended funeral. For families who wish, our purpose-built chapel also offers the opportunity to gather for a small, intimate service beforehand.

Our pricing reflects the level of care and service we provide, while remaining competitive and straightforward, with no hidden extras.

As an independent, family-run funeral director, we choose to invest in our facilities, our team, and the families we serve — keeping everything rooted within the local community.

If you would like to learn more, you are always welcome to come and have a chat with us and explore the options available.
