Reminder ๐คซ
2026 is here and with it comes the promise of new beginnings...
Blah blah blah ๐ This is our annual tradition, or programming, where we have been collectively fooling ourselves for centuries...
We promise things to ourselves in January and by December we might not even remember them. Well at least 70% of us anyway ๐
It is believed that the ancient Babylonians (modern-day Iraq) were the first to make New Year resolutions. During their religious Akitu festival (often translated as New Year Festival) they promised their Gods that they would pay off all debts and return any borrowed items.
The Gods were supposed to grant them prosperity for the coming year in return. The Akitu festival took place over a few days between March & April, during the Spring Equinox, rather than January.
During winter our serotonin, dopamine and beta-endorphin levels reduce in our bodies, that's why we react slower to situations and get tired quicker. We also require more sleep as our melatonin levels are higher in winter due to a shorter exposure to natural light.
So this year don't fall for the 'New Year, New Me' trap! ๐ชค
This is your reminder that the Astrological New Year begins on 20th March (Spring Equinox), when nature reawakens and the Sun returns. Our bodies in January are still in their winter sleep, even the Babylonians knew this, but the modern world is ignoring our biological clock ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
Nothing feels alive during winter...the season is for realising, restoring and preparing for the rebirth ahead, so if you need to make space do so now ๐ฅ
If you don't feel Spring at your doorstep currently that's because you aren't supposed to!
During winter we receive less sunlight and this affects our internal body clock, also known as the circadian rhythm or circadian cycle. We are supposed to hibernate just like animals and plants do.
This year let's embrace the slowness of winter ๐ฌ๏ธ it's the perfect time for seasonal pausing and stillness in our bodies ๐
Winter isn't the reason why we feel tired and depleted... It is capitalism and modern social culture that denies us the rest that we crave so much. We really aren't designed to be productive all year round like capitalism expects us to be!
So just relax! ๐ค You still have enough time to be whatever you want to be ๐ค
Take this time between New Year and the Equinox to cleanse and reset your circadian rhythm ๐ป๐ท๐ชป๐ธ
Take every opportunity to heat up your body and catch up on some sleep. Limit your exposure to blue light(e.g. computers, phones or tablets), reduce your intake of coffee and alcohol, eat non-processed food, exercise regularly and try to absorb some natural daylight whilst connecting with nature. Book that restorative yoga class or relaxing massage that you always wanted to try!
Drink plenty of filtered water & take supplements that fill your body with minerals. Eat warming food and spices, wear warm clothes and surround yourself with people that warm your heart โ๐ฅ
Take every opportunity to do less and go slow, start reflecting on last year and start dreaming of what you want to do when the Sun returns... โ๏ธ
We still have 76 days until Spring! So don't feel guilty about sleeping longer and restore your mind, body and spirit.
Soon these long dark evenings will turn into busy, brighter summer nights ๐๐ป
So rest deeply now, spend some time with your friends and family, sit around a warm fire and drink some warm, relaxing tea ๐ฅฐ
Your body clock doesn't wake up until March, so you can still grab your heated blanket every now and then and wait for the Sun to return! โ๏ธ
