I thought I would re-introduce myself and show you my snazzy new uniform 👋

Hello, my name is Fiona and I am a Neuro-specialist Physiotherapist based in Hove. I graduated in 2012 with a BSc in Physiotherapy from Leeds Beckett University. I moved to London and worked within numerous areas of Physiotherapy in the Hounslow and Richmond trust; whilst also working for my local rugby club.

I expanded my clinical skills by gaining a diploma in Sports Massage in 2014 and left the UK for five months to work as a masseuse in the French Alps. When I returned I moved to Brighton and specialised within Neuro-Physiotherapy. I have experience working within both the NHS and the private sector.

I am currently working as a Major Trauma Rehabilitation Coordinator and Physiotherapist within the Royal Sussex County Hospital. My case load is predominantly Traumatic Head Injuries, Spinal Cord Injuries and those who have suffered polytraumas.

Throughout my years of qualifying I have attended several Neuro-Specialist courses, including Bobath specific training. This has taught me handling skills to enhance normal movement patterns and improved my knowledge of tone. I have worked within a variety of different environments within neurology such as Critical care, Acute stroke, Neuro Outpatients and Neuro-rehabilitation which has given me experience with a variety of patients.

I am extremely passionate in helping those with brain acquired injuries reach their full potential. Combining my knowledge in Neurology and Massage, I hope to provide a bespoke therapeutic service for those with Neurological conditions in their home.

This weekend I attended the first weekend out of 3 of the Bobath course. Fantastic sessions on postural control, movement analysis and facilitation. I used one of the methods on my client to give them a long arm, trunk extension and as a result brilliant activation of triceps 💪 looking forward to weekend 2

Massage can be extremely beneficial to those who have sustained a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)

Those with Spinal Cord Injuries can have a vast presentation depending on the level and severity of their injury.

Muscle spasms, stiffness and pain are commonly associated with SCI. The repetitive sensory feedback and increase in muscle length can help address these issues and thereby improve quality of life. Depending on the severity of injury there could be the potential to improve sensation and also increase body schema which is your own ability to know where your own body is.

Those with SCI often have extremely overworked muscles they are using to compensate for any weakness. Massage can help these muscles to relax and release any tension. It also will increase muscle length allowing these muscles to continue to work efficiently.

Massage increases your body's production of serotonin which is a natural painkiller and in addition it can promote circulation and boosts relaxation. Both these aspects can reduce anxiety and boost mood.

To all my lovely clients your health is first and foremost. I will not be massaging anyone, particularly as I work within the hospital until this has blown over. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any supplies delivered to your home or for emotional support. Remember you are not on your own. Stay safe and well. I will see you soon 💕

Absolutely love this clip. Some of you may not know that I work full time as a Neuro-specialist Physiotherapist. Her passion clearly shines through in this video, one of which I share for both working as a physio and as a masseuse. Both roles give me huge job satisfaction, knowing that I am able to make a difference to people who need it 💕
