During the month of May, we will be focusing on all things musical.
We all understand the positive impact music can have on wellbeing, but how much time and investment do we put into making the most of what music can offer?
Musical tastes are personal, so it’s important to ensure we understand what individuals enjoy and provide a variety of genres that reflect this.
We would love you to get involved by sharing your musical successes in care environments. Whether it’s singing, dancing, or personalised approaches to supporting people who may feel isolated, your experiences can inspire others.
Watch this space for our upcoming Top Tips on making the most of music.

“She’s top notch - a rare gem.”
“Diane wasn’t simply talking about change - she was determined to make it happen.”
“She didn’t just redecorate the building. She re-imagined the heart of the home.”

Today, we celebrate Diane Kehoe, a worthy finalist in the ‘Leadership’ category of the UK Dementia Awards 2026 in

Diane exemplifies all that we look for in a Butterfly Manager at West View Care Home - passionate, driven and always leading from the heart.

Diane sees this recognition as for her whole fantastic team, which is a measure of the amazing woman that she is.

THANK YOU Diane from all of us in the MCM family!

Some lovely moments on a Butterfly training day today on Food and Mealtimes - making banana bread and sharing ideas for more sensory experiences and fun.

We put out lots of interesting items on tables and this little postbox prompted memories of living in London and posting letters to her husband for one woman living on the Pacific Deck Household The Royal Naval Benevolent Trust

It’s the simple things which can make a difference? 💌

Another engaging two days on the Meaningful Care Matters Free to be Me course in Ontario this week. Part Two explores what ‘compassion’ looks, sounds and feels like in practice and the dynamics and impact of ‘change’ when trying to transform care cultures.

One of the exercises involved looking at the ceiling and the floor for several minutes in silence, and how this felt. What would this be like if it was for three or four hours with nothing happening?

It is great to have an opportunity for partners from all over Ontario to share their struggles and successes. Together we are stronger!

Looking for inspiration for simple, practical ways to make a difference in care?
Over the coming months, we will be sharing ‘Top Tips’ that support a shift in culture from institutional models of care to more home-like environments.
This month’s focus is on enhancing the mealtime experience. Mealtimes are not just about nutrition, but about creating meaningful moments that encourage independence, dignity and social connection.
We would welcome examples and photographs of how others are making mealtimes more sociable and enjoyable.

Our Managing Director, Peter has had a busy and enjoyable 5-week visit round the UK and Ireland visiting old and new partners and delivering training and Butterfly and Dragonfly Audits. We also had a tour round the building site of the new Merlin Park care home in to discuss design plans.

It’s always great to see people in person rather than just in a box on a screen, and to be reminded of the amazing things those working with Meaningful Care Matters are achieving.

(hard hats aren’t required for all our visits! 😉)

Huge congratulations to the Ganges Household team for this fantastic achievement. Your passion and hard work shone through the day, with people sharing the day with lots of fun and genuine friendship. We are proud to partner with you!

Congratulations to everyone at Admiral Jellicoe House on achieving Butterfly Accreditation from Meaningful Care Matters 🦋🩵

This is the highest level of recognition, reflecting an outstanding standard of person-centred dementia care. It’s a real testament to the dedication, compassion and commitment shown by the whole team every day.

What makes this achievement so special is the environment they’ve created, one where people feel at home, where relationships matter, and where emotional care sits alongside physical care.

We’re incredibly proud of the difference being made for residents and their families.

Serve a day, supported for life. ⚓🩵

St Joseph’s had their Wellness day for staff this week with Yoga classes, massage and lots of healthy food.
32 team members attended and people living in the home were also welcome to enjoy a smoothie and the relaxing vibes!

Jim pictured here offered the massages, the Chaplain did meditations and Ann led the Yoga. Laurentiu from one household particularly liked his ‘manly’ apron while trying out the Yoga poses!

Lots of important conversations and learning with the team at Pembroke House The Royal Naval Benevolent Trust using the Five Behaviours of a Cohesive Team training, led by Peter Bewert with Sally Knocker.

Some tears and plenty of laughter too!

It’s been lovely to have some time as the MCM UK and Ireland team with Peter and Amanda visiting from Australia with their family - combining work and fun!

A team meeting by the sea included reflecting on how our team is working together using the Five Behaviours of a Cohesive Team tools we use with other teams.

The smiles in the picture reflect some of the outcomes we discovered, although there is always lots to learn and improve.

21 April is in the UK
You can tell a lot about a by how tea is served and the care taken to get it just right for each individual.
Some like it piping hot, some like it milky, some prefer a mug, and for others it simply has to be a bone china cup. Then comes the big question… which is the best brew?
And of course, it’s never just about the tea — the biscuits matter too! 🍪
