🌿 Haputanga: The Māori Way of Birthing (with Te Kaha) 🌿
🗓️ Friday 7 – Sunday 9 November 2025
📍 Grey Door Therapy Clinic
🎟️ Via Eventbrite — limited spaces
We invite you to join us for Haputanga wānanga — an experiential, heartfelt journey into Māori birthing practice, led by Te Kaha, Māori Elder and birthkeeper.
This is a rare opportunity to engage in the wisdom of Te Ao Māori in the sacred process of bringing new life into the world.
✨ What you’ll experience
Over three full days, participants (pregnant people + partners) will:
• Connect deeply with the spiritual dimension of birth, embracing “we are pregnant” as a shared journey (not “she is pregnant”).
• Learn Koomiri massage and traditional techniques to support the body in pregnancy and labour.
• Practice how partners can support through touch, tone, vibration, and presence.
• Explore repositioning techniques, relieving discomfort in labour, and creating safe space for the emerging spirit.
• Engage in oriori: the ancient practice of conveying reassurance and energy through voice.
• Reclaim the role of the partner (taane) in supporting, empowering, and honouring birthing through traditional Māori perspectives.
• Heal and remember ancestral wisdom of birthing.
Te Kaha teaches from his lineage, guided by his ancestors and lived experience.
💞 Spaces & participation
• Open to couples, birth workers, healing practitioners (and supportive whanau).
• Limited capacity — we hold this as an intimate, sacred gathering.
• Every pair (pregnant + partner) is welcome.
• Kindly check Eventbrite for ticket options and availability.
If you are wanting to bring more presence, connection, and deep cultural wisdom into your birth journey — this is a vessel to hold that. 💫
