Friday 25th of November is the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and to mark this day I would like to highlight the work of a charitable community group close to my heart.

Homeopathy in the Sussex Community (HISC) works in in partnership with 4 local charities, Southdown Housing, RISE, Safe in Sussex and Survivors’ Network. Established in 2011, its main focus is domestic and sexual abuse, and mental health. The aim of HISC is to offer a low cost, or free, homeopathic service as part of an integrated approach to support survivors on the road to recovery. Without HISC many would not otherwise be able to afford access to holistic therapies.

In 2021 across all 4 projects, HISC offered 160 homeopathy clinics, which translates to 461 client appointments. Each clinic lasts around 3 hours, with an average of 2 – 3 clients seen during that time. The three professional homeopaths dedicated to these projects are registered, insured, and come with a huge amount of experience of working with vulnerable groups.

The geographic area of HISC’s work is primarily Brighton & Hove, though since 2017 the group has been working in partnership with registered charity Safe in Sussex, which offers help and support for people affected by domestic abuse in the West Sussex area, through the provision of refuges and outreach programmes.

HISC is funded by charitable grants and donations, and without this generosity would not exist. Absolutely honour to work with Safe In Sussex on their wellbeing day. Such amazing staff and so deserving of some down time. SIS do such amazing work supporting vulnerable women and children and continued to provide services throughout the past two years. Thanks to the awesome team who worked with me on the day. I haven't posted in a while as it's been a busy year which has included celebrating 10 years of Homeopathy in the Sussex Community (HISC). As an organisation we set out to deliver low cost homeopathy to people who wouldn't normally be able to afford it. We have projects in mental health services, domestic violence services and sexual violence and r**e services. Over 10 years, hundreds of people have been able to access low cost homeopathy. We receive mainstream funding for all our projects. I'm so proud of everything we've achieved. We celebrated with tea, cake and bubbles in the beautiful sunshine yesterday. Here's to ten more years and here's a photo of some of the team.

To mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Homeopathy in the Sussex Community has released this article which explains some of the work we do with survivors of domestic and sexual abuse. I love my project at Survivors Network which is now in its third year with a wait of six weeks for appointments. A very much needed service. Please feel free to share the link. You never know who may benefit from reading it today.

The effects of Covid have brought challenges for everyone. But for many people in abusive relationships, lockdown restrictions have had a profound and devastating impact. In Sussex, HISC is working with women to support them in the darkest of times.
