*My Mum Was Diagnosed With Diverticulitis 20 Years Ago*
Mum also had heartburn and indigestion
And died of bowel cancer in 2013

Anyway, back to the Diverticulitis…
Her Specialist and GP told her to stop eating tomatoes
(Her diet was tomato sandwiches. breakfast cereals and ready meals)
They said the tomato seeds were getting caught in the diverticuli in the intestinal walls causing ‘flare ups’
I wish her doctors had been more interested in the rest of what she was eating
Why?
I’ll explain- and this applies to *all the gastro-intestinal*
problems that we now face in epidemic proportions
__________
**If you have a GI problem-**
Stop eating bread and other grain products
· They are high in carbohydrates & cause inflammation in the stomach/ intestines, as well as the rest of the body

· The primary type of protein in grain/cereal foods is gluten
Glutens are implicated as a cause of Leaky Gut Syndrome.
Glutens damage the tight junctions between cells lining
the gut and compromise the gut barrier.
All grains have gluten, including rye, barley, wheat etc,
so granola bars etc are implicated too.
Oats have a similar protein called avenin which does the same things
Corn has a similar protein-Zein- which does the same things.

· Most cereal/grain crops contain pesticide residues, like Glyphosate/ which has antibiotic properties
(Oat crops almost universally have high levels of glyphosate residues)
Unsurprisingly glyphosate kills our gut microbiome too

Limit processed foods
· They contain a lot of non food-like chemicals like preservatives and emulsifiers- to extend shelf life.
These damage the intestinal wall and the gut barrier too.

One of the ways they do this is by breaking down
the layer of mucous that lines the gut.
The mucous protects the gut lining from direct
contact with the gut contents
· Added sugar & carbs lead to inflammation through the whole body.
· Added sugar makes a poor microbiome

We discover more every day on how important it is to the quality of your life, to have healthy bacteria living in the gut

For a healthy gut-
Limit wheat and other grains
Limit processed foods
__________
My mum suffered a lot with her problem.
She had a lot of pain and discomfort and could never be far from a toilet.
__________
*I have eliminated most grains and processed foods from my diet*
I no longer have IBS or heartburn and indigestion
I no longer have signs of a Leaky Gut (skin issues, tiredness, brain fog /poor memory etc)

What Do You Eat For Breakfast ?
And do even you eat ‘breakfast’?
“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day”
So said Mr Kellogg over 100 years ago.
But why did he say it? – To sell his breakfast cereals of course.
Mr Kellogg was an interesting man.
His idea was that constipation in young men was the cause of what was then called ‘self-abuse’ (we call it ma********on). Being a religious man, he thought this needed fixing.
His idea was that more ‘roughage’ (fibre) in the diet would lead to less of ‘the problem’.
I have no idea about the effect on Mr Kellogg’s target behaviour BUT
I can tell you. . .
If you eat cereals at breakfast time, the effect is to set you up for being hungry all day.
Because starchy/sugary foods cause blood glucose spikes and insulin spikes in your blood.
Insulin is your fat storage/fat hoarding hormone-
It’s released to convert glucose to triglyceride fats and put them away as bodyfat.
Glucose in the blood will drop quickly, as it’s put away as fat, then you get hungry
If you eat bread, or in fact anything starchy at breakfast time it will have the same effect
Proteins and fats don’t spike insulin levels…
If you can eat eggs, or anything else that’s high in protein/fats for breakfast, it doesn’t spike insulin.
So you can’t store fat in your fat cells.
And while insulin is low, you can use your fat stores
Proteins and fats are nourishing to your body, and keep insulin low
If the only thing available is starchy foods, it’s probably better to avoid breakfast altogether-
Yes, Really!
