All swimmers on our Learn to Swim programme will soon be taking part in Swim England’s Swim Safe class — an essential session focused on building confidence and teaching lifesaving water safety skills.

During their lesson, children will learn:

🛟 How to Float to Live
📞 What to do in an emergency and who to call

They’ll also practise floating, signalling for help and calling out confidently — simple skills that make a big difference.

Water Safety Week is HERE! 🌊

From 24th November 2025, every child on our Learn to Swim programme will take part in Swim England’s Swim Safe class - helping them build essential skills that could one day save a life.

During the week, swimmers will learn:

🏖️ Beach & open water safety
⭐ The Water Safety Code
🛟 How to Float to Live
📞 How to call for help in an emergency

They’ll also get to practise floating, signalling and shouting for help - vital skills taught in a fun, confidence-building way.

🌟 Meet Iris — proving age is just a number at 89! 🌟

Rainham’s very own Iris Tolley is showing us all what it truly means to stay active for life. At 89, she swims 30 lengths, hits the gym three times a week, and even walks to and from Rainham Leisure Centre every session 💪💙

A former swimming teacher of 25+ years, Iris has dedicated her life to helping others gain confidence in the water. And today, she’s still living by the same motto:

“If you don’t move and use your body, you could lose it.”

From walking groups to cycling across Europe, Kenya and Cuba — and even taking up skiing at 50 — Iris is the definition of unstoppable!

Her message to anyone nervous about getting started?
“Just give it a try – you’ll love it!” 🗨️

Twin sisters Jenny and Alison are living proof that staying active keeps you young at heart! 💙🏊

At 80 years old, they’ve inspired generations of swimmers at Royston Leisure Centre — with Alison teaching since the pool first opened over 20 years ago, and Jenny joining her 15 years ago after leaving her office job to follow her passion for fitness.

Today, both remain shining role models in our community — Alison still swims regularly, and Jenny loves her time in the gym.

Their dedication and energy continue to inspire everyone around them to keep moving, keep smiling, and keep active 💪✨

Work has officially started on a brand-new Golf Pod facility at Basildon Sporting Village 🏗️🏌️‍♂️

The innovative new addition will feature 10 covered practice bays overlooking a 30m x 30m synthetic grass outfield, giving golfers of all ages and abilities the chance to practise their swing in a modern, weatherproof and accessible setting.

Developed and operated by Golf Pod and supported by Everyone Active in partnership with Basildon Borough Council, the facility will bring a fun, social and high-tech golf experience to our community.

Expected to open in early January, this is set to be another fantastic addition to our world-class facilities 🙌
