CHFT Children’s Occupational Therapy

CHFT Children’s Occupational Therapy Calderdale and Huddersfield Children's Occupational Therapy Team within Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust. Thank you

Welcome to the Calderdale and Huddersfield Children's Occupational Therapy Team's page. This page aims to give you information about our services and general support regarding Occupational Therapy and will not be used for giving specific advice. We are a team of qualified Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants who provide a child centred, family orientated approach. We work with children who have a physical, functional or coordination difficulty that impacts on their activities of daily living at home or at school (for example dressing, writing, playing, eating). We enable the child to reach their maximum developmental potential and gain independence in performing daily living activities by linking closely with families and other professionals. If you have any questions or would like to make a referral, please contact the admin team on 01422 261 340. If you are not within our area, your GP will be able to signpost you to your local service.

Here are some ideas for sensory activities, which might be particularly helpful when supporting a young person with complex learning needs.
Please remember not to introduce too much sensory stimuli at the same time, as this can be overwhelming.

🎆 We want everyone to be able to safely enjoy Bonfire Night this year, and avoid coming to our busy A&E departments. 🎆

The safest way is to attend an organised event. But if you do plan to celebrate at home, please follow these safety tips from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue 👉 https://buff.ly/3YGCHjj

What a brilliant idea!

We are delighted to confirm that this year's childrens firework display will be a 'low noise' display, meaning it will be suitable for SEN children! Our recent survey revealed a huge demand for the children's fireworks to be low noise - you asked & we're making it happen! 😀

Parent's please note: whilst the fireworks themselves will be noise free (no bangs, no fizzes) there will be sound when the fireworks are released, meaning we still recommend children sensitive to noise wear ear protection. 🔇

Cerebral Palsy - OT role - school

There are lots of ways that an OT can help your child at school. This could be providing or recommending equipment to make things easier. An OT looks at the tasks which a child needs to do at school such as recording their work, using scissors, feeding themselves and getting changed for PE.

Cerebral Palsy - OT role - occupations

An Occupational Therapist looks at how a child/young person carries out their daily tasks such as getting washed and dressed, feeding themselves and making snacks.

An OT looks at if there are easier ways for a child/young person to carry out these tasks, if equipment would help, or if they need to keep practicing
