A message of thanks for our carer Nyarai Phikani. 🫶

A couple of weeks ago, Nyarai walked into one of the hardest situations any carer can face. She found a client's husband had passed away unexpectedly. What she did next is something the family wanted us to share.

Nyarai stayed calm. She contacted emergency services. She gently broke the news to family members over the phone. And through it all, she kept her client supported during the worst moment of her life.

The family have asked us to pass on their thanks to Nyarai for how she handled everything. Professional, sensitive, and compassionate when they needed it most.

We're passing on those thanks, and adding our own. We're incredibly proud of how Nyarai responded. The care, the composure, the humanity she showed... that's exactly who we want representing Routes when families need us most.

Thank you, Nyarai. The family are grateful. We're grateful. ❤️

Today we pause to remember those who served and those we lost.

Across our communities in Northern England, so many families carry these memories. Some of the people we support served themselves. Others remember loved ones who never came home.

Their stories matter. Today, we remember.

Remember, remember the 5th of November... But also remember to take care of you and your loved ones this Bonfire Night.

For some people, sudden loud noises can be genuinely distressing. Especially for those living with dementia, PTSD, neurodivergence, or a general anxiety around sudden, unexpected noise. And if pets are stressed, that affects everyone in the home too.

Here's a few tips that can help:
🫶 Plan ahead: Let them know fireworks are happening tonight so there are no surprises.
🫶 Create a calm space: Draw curtains early, play familiar music or have the telly on to mask the noise.
🫶 Comfort matters: Warm blankets, a hot drink, and staying nearby can make a real difference.
🫶 Distraction works: A favourite film, a puzzle, or just having a chat can shift focus away from what's happening outside.
🫶 Check on pets: A calm pet means a calmer household. Give them their own quiet space too.

If you're supporting someone at home this winter and need a helping hand, our care teams are here. From a few hours' respite to round-the-clock support across Northern England, we're here when you need us. 🏡
